MUMBAI: Apple is set to host its “Surprise and shine” event on September 9 at Apple Park in Cupertino, with the iPhone 18 Pro series and the company’s first foldable iPhone expected to take centre stage.

The event is also expected to bring new Apple Watch models and AirPods. It will mark the first major product launch event under Apple CEO John Ternus.

The event begins at 10 am PT, or 10:30 pm IST, on September 9. Viewers in India can watch the launch live through Apple’s website, the Apple TV app and YouTube.

The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are expected to retain 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch display sizes, respectively, while receiving upgrades to their cameras and internal hardware.

Reports suggest the phones could be powered by Apple’s A20 Pro chip, potentially built using 2nm technology. The new processors are also expected to bring improved battery life.

Apple could reduce the size of the Dynamic Island, while a variable-aperture main camera may be exclusive to the Pro Max. Under-display Face ID, however, remains unconfirmed.

The biggest announcement could be Apple’s first foldable iPhone. The device is reportedly expected to feature a book-style design similar to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold series.

Leaks suggest the foldable could have 5.5-inch and 7.8-inch displays, dual rear cameras and Touch ID. Apple is also said to be working on a redesigned hinge to reduce the visibility of the screen crease.

The device could carry “Ultra” branding and is expected to be positioned at the top end of Apple’s smartphone range, with reports suggesting a price above $2,500, or around Rs 2.6 lakh.

The launch could also see the debut of the Apple Watch Series 12 and Watch Ultra 4. The new models are expected to bring additional health features and sensors, alongside new colours and a possible ceramic case.

Apple could also introduce new AirPods with health-tracking capabilities.

The September event is expected to focus on Apple’s premium devices. Reports suggest the standard iPhone 18, iPhone 18e and second-generation iPhone Air could be delayed until spring 2027.

If that timeline holds, Apple’s September launch will represent a significant shift from its usual strategy of unveiling the wider iPhone range together, with the company instead concentrating on its high-end models and new foldable category.
