MUMBAI: Talk about milking a success story for all it is worth! India’s dairy titan, the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation Ltd. (Amul), has skimmed the cream off international competition to be crowned the World’s Strongest Dairy Brand in the Brand Finance UK Food & Drink 2026 study.

Leaving competitors in its wake, Amul secured a near-perfect Brand Strength Index (BSI) score of 93.0 out of 100, earning the elite AAA+ brand strength rating. The Indian dairy giant outpaced global heavyweights, topping a elite leaderboard that includes Vinamilk (89.6), Valio (88.3), Mengniu (87.2), Yili (85.0), Almarai (82.7), Président (72.8), Arla (67.5), Danone (65.6), and Gerber (57.7).

The financial numbers look just as rich. Amul’s total brand value surged by 22% to hit a staggering USD 5 billion. Beyond its core sector, the cooperative proved its muscle across the broader global food landscape, bagging impressive rankings across multiple categories:

2nd strongest food brand globally

4th most valuable dairy brand worldwide

13th most valuable food brand overall

The single Indian brand to make the Top 50 global food brands list

Amul’s churn to the top does not stop there. Moving up the financial ladder in the Rabobank Annual Global Dairy Top 20 report for 2026, the company climbed two spots from 14th last year to take the No. 12 position globally. The ranking places Amul alongside industry behemoths, boasting a dairy turnover of USD 8.4 billion (EUR 7.5 billion) based on 2025 financial estimates.

To put its colossal reach into perspective, Amul caters to over 1 billion consumers across more than 50 countries, churning out and selling a mind-boggling 24 billion product packages every single year.

At the heart of this global juggernaut is a grassroots powerhouse. Built upon a robust three-tier cooperative model comprising over 18,600 village dairy cooperatives, Amul is powered by 36 lakh (3.6 million) milk producers, the vast majority of whom are women. This grassroots strength earned Amul the title of the World’s No. 1 cooperative based on GDP per capita performance at the International Cooperative Alliance (ICA) World Cooperative Monitor 2025 during the ICA CM50 Conference in Doha, Qatar.

From turning India into the world’s largest milk producer to nourishing millions worldwide, Amul’s global triumph proves that its cooperative spirit remains the true taste of victory.
