BENGALURU: Sales careers are rarely a straight line, and Amit Mukherjee’s is proof of that. After more than a decade of chasing targets across television, radio and digital, he has just stepped into the role of chief sales manager, CTV, at Aaj Tak and India Today, part of India Today Group Digital, from August 2026. Based in Bangalore Urban, Karnataka, the brief is unambiguous: drive CTV and digital revenue for two of the country’s biggest news brands across the south market, with agency partnerships, key accounts and new business all on the table.

Mukherjee’s rise has been steady rather than showy. He spent over two years as group head at Zee Media Corporation Limited, working with a leading business news channel, before that a stint as manager, ad sales, sports, at Viacom18, splitting time between digital sales at Jio Cinema and television sales at Sports 18. Before Viacom18, he had already clocked nearly four years as manager, ad sales, at India Today itself, a second innings at a company where his career effectively began.

The early chapters tell their own story. As deputy manager, ad sales, at TV Today, he ran the Hindi broadcast Tez for the south market and pushed its revenue from Rs 60 lakh to Rs 1.80 crore within a year, a fourfold jump that would catch any sales head’s eye. Earlier still, as assistant manager, he was part of the team that relaunched India Today TV and doubled the channel’s revenue, before that handling the English broadcast Headlines Today for Karnataka as senior sales executive. His very first sales job, at TV Today, had him managing the radio brand Oye 104.8 FM across Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Amritsar, Patiala, Jodhpur and Shimla, followed by a spell as relationship manager, digital sales, at HT Media, where he looked after Hindustan Times’s digital vertical, Shine.com.

What emerges is a sales professional who has worked practically every format there is: television, radio and digital, across FCT, sponsorship and lead generation. That breadth now finds a natural home in CTV, arguably the fastest-growing corner of Indian media, where Mukherjee’s task will be to turn that experience into fresh revenue for Aaj Tak and India Today.
