MUMBAI: Style may change with the season, but steady growth never goes out of fashion. Aditya Birla Lifestyle Brands Ltd (ABLBL) stitched together a stronger first quarter of FY27, reporting double-digit revenue growth and a healthy rise in profit, signalling resilient demand despite a challenging retail environment.
The fashion retailer reported revenue from operations of Rs 2,045.74 crore for the quarter ended 30 June 2026, up 11.2 per cent from Rs 1,840.58 crore in the corresponding quarter last year. Total income increased to Rs 2,064.20 crore, compared with Rs 1,863.11 crore a year earlier.
Profit before tax stood at Rs 39.17 crore, up from Rs 28.17 crore in the year-ago period. After accounting for tax expenses, net profit rose 20.6 per cent to Rs 29.02 crore, compared with Rs 24.06 crore in the first quarter of FY26.
The company incurred total expenses of Rs 2,025.03 crore, up from Rs 1,834.94 crore last year, reflecting higher operating activity. Employee benefit expenses increased to Rs 248.62 crore from Rs 234.55 crore, while rent expenses rose to Rs 192.54 crore from Rs 190.45 crore. Depreciation and amortisation climbed to Rs 204.12 crore, compared with Rs 172.51 crore in the corresponding quarter.
Material costs also moved higher, with cost of materials consumed rising to Rs 299.31 crore from Rs 276 crore, while purchases of stock-in-trade stood at Rs 483.79 crore against Rs 553.50 crore a year ago. Other operating expenses increased to Rs 499.66 crore, up from Rs 464.14 crore.
Unlike the preceding quarter, the company did not report any exceptional items during the period. In the March 2026 quarter, it had recorded an exceptional charge of Rs 7.72 crore, while FY26 included exceptional items worth Rs 49.03 crore.
Other comprehensive income for the quarter stood at a loss of Rs 3.59 crore, mainly due to the remeasurement of defined benefit plans. As a result, total comprehensive income came in at Rs 25.43 crore, compared with Rs 21.28 crore in the year-ago quarter.
Basic and diluted earnings per share improved to Rs 0.24, up from Rs 0.20 in the corresponding quarter of FY26.
The results indicate that Aditya Birla Lifestyle Brands has entered FY27 on firmer footing, with improving profitability accompanying double-digit revenue growth as the company continues to navigate India’s evolving fashion retail landscape.
