GURGAON: Abhishek Mehta has just been promoted to deputy general manager of digital marketing at Dabur India, and the move caps a two-year run at the company that began with him running digital for its healthcare, foods and beverages portfolio. This is not a hire from outside; it is a promotion earned from within, and that distinction matters. Dabur has watched Mehta operate inside its own walls for nearly two years before deciding he was the right person to widen his brief.

The path to this point has been anything but linear, which is exactly what makes Mehta’s profile interesting. He cut his teeth in search marketing, starting as team lead at Wildnet Technologies before rising to assistant vice-president of digital marketing at AdLift India, a run of more than four years that built the technical foundation for everything that followed. In between, he founded and ran IndiaSpeaksNow.com for five years, an entrepreneurial detour that few purely corporate marketers can claim, before returning to agency and brand-side roles as founding member and director of marketing at 9zest and vice-president of digital marketing at ibs fulcro.

The real inflection point came with Jubilant FoodWorks, where Mehta spent over three years as head of digital marketing, working on some of India’s most recognisable quick-service restaurant brands and building brand safety expertise in what he has himself described as a volatile digital era. From there he moved to Bagrry’s as head of marketing, working across influencer strategy and brand campaigns including the Fruito+ launch, before joining Dabur in October 2024 to lead digital marketing across healthcare, foods and beverages.

What stands out about Mehta’s trajectory is the range: search marketing, QSR, FMCG breakfast and wellness brands, and now a legacy Indian consumer goods giant with a portfolio spanning healthcare, personal care and food products. That breadth is precisely the kind of asset large, diversified companies like Dabur look for when filling senior digital roles, because the discipline required to market Chef Boss campaigns for Domino’s is genuinely different from the discipline required to sell Ayurvedic wellness products, and few marketers have proven fluency in both.

For Dabur, promoting from within after watching Mehta deliver across one product vertical for nearly two years is a low-risk, high-conviction bet, the kind that signals confidence rather than experimentation. For Mehta, it is recognition of a career built patiently across agency, entrepreneurial and brand-side roles, each one adding a layer of expertise that the last one lacked. That is not the résumé of someone who got lucky. It is the résumé of someone who built toward exactly this.
