WAVES OTT surfs past 1 crore users with massive public media expansion milestone

NEW DELHI: WAVES of success are rolling in for India’s public streaming push as WAVES OTT has sailed past the 1 crore user mark, proving that free, public-interest entertainment still knows how to make waves in the digital age.

The platform, operated by Prasar Bharati, has crossed 10 million registered users in under two years since its launch in November 2024. The milestone highlights the growing appetite for trusted, diverse and freely accessible digital content in India and beyond.

At present, WAVES OTT offers more than 24,000 titles and over 15,000 hours of content spanning entertainment, news, education, culture, spirituality and public service programming. Users can also access more than 140 live television channels, 200 radio services and live event coverage, alongside educational broadcasts via PM eVidya.

The platform further integrates public knowledge resources including digital editions of Yojana, Kurukshetra and Rozgar Samachar, along with devotional streams, archival footage and cultural programming.

According to officials, the growth reflects stronger digital engagement with public service media, driven by expanded content partnerships, multilingual offerings and wider device availability across mobile, web and connected TVs. The service now reaches audiences in more than 130 countries.

The platform is now setting its sights higher, targeting 2 crore registered users by March 2027 through deeper regional content, enhanced educational programming and broader distribution networks.

As India’s digital content landscape grows increasingly crowded, WAVES OTT is positioning itself as a steady public anchor, blending culture, education and entertainment in one accessible destination.
