Tinder unveils first major rebrand in nearly a decade
Dating app introduces new logo, typography and swipe-led visual identity
MUMBAI: Looks matter in dating and apparently in branding too. Tinder, the app that turned a simple swipe into a global dating ritual, has unveiled its first major brand refresh in almost a decade, giving its visual identity a makeover to reflect the changing face of modern relationships.
Developed in collaboration with design agency Porto Rocha, the overhaul is Tinder’s first comprehensive redesign since its last major brand evolution nearly 10 years ago. The refresh spans its logo, typography, motion design and overall brand language as the company looks to modernise its image for a new generation of users.
Leading the changes is a redesigned logo. Tinder has dropped its familiar lowercase wordmark in favour of a bold, all-caps TINDER logo, while its iconic flame symbol has been refined into a cleaner, sharper and more minimalist mark without losing its instantly recognisable silhouette.
The company has also introduced a new expressive serif typeface, bringing a warmer, more editorial aesthetic to its communications while complementing the updated visual identity.
Perhaps the most distinctive addition is the evolution of Tinder’s signature swipe gesture into a dedicated motion design system. The interaction that helped redefine online dating will now feature across the platform’s digital experiences and marketing assets, reinforcing one of the brand’s most recognisable behaviours.
The refresh reflects broader shifts in how people approach relationships. According to Daniel Kim, Senior Vice-President, Tinder Asia | Match Group, the redesign acknowledges that modern dating is increasingly nuanced balancing spontaneity with intention and excitement with vulnerability. He said the rebrand marks the beginning of a new chapter for Tinder in Asia, one that aims to better reflect contemporary dating while encouraging more meaningful connections beyond the app.
Launched in 2012, Tinder popularised the swipe-based matching model that reshaped online dating worldwide. The platform is owned by Match Group, whose portfolio also includes Hinge, OkCupid, Plenty of Fish and Meetic.
Today, Tinder is available in more than 190 countries and supports over 45 languages, making it one of the world’s largest dating platforms. While the mechanics of finding a match remain unchanged, the company is betting that a refreshed identity will help it stay relevant in an increasingly competitive and evolving online dating landscape.
