Telegram vanishes from Apple App Store search as Epstein files post fuels speculation

San Francisco: Telegram users found themselves searching for the app instead of chatting on it after the messaging platform briefly vanished from search results on Apple’s App Store across multiple regions, prompting widespread speculation online.

Although the dedicated App Store listing for Telegram remained accessible and was later fully restored, users reported that the app could not be consistently found through App Store searches for a period. The issue appeared to resolve itself after some time, but Apple has not explained what caused the temporary disappearance.

The timing of the incident fuelled online theories because it occurred shortly after Telegram’s official account on X shared a viral post joking that users would receive Grand Theft Auto VI before the full release of the Epstein files.

The post quickly attracted thousands of reactions, leading some social media users to speculate that Apple had deliberately removed Telegram from App Store search results in response. However, there is no evidence to support that claim, and neither Apple nor Telegram has indicated that the two events were connected.

The reason behind the App Store search issue remains unknown. While the platform’s listing was restored, some users continued to report inconsistent search visibility even after the apparent resolution.

Apple has previously taken action against Telegram over content moderation concerns, including issues related to child sexual abuse material. However, there is nothing to suggest that the latest App Store search disruption was linked to those earlier enforcement actions.

Until Apple provides an explanation, the brief disappearance remains just that: an unexplained App Store glitch. Despite the flurry of online theories, there is no verified evidence linking the incident to Telegram’s viral social media post or any other specific action.
