Tamil Zee 5 unveils new slate led by Vijay’s Jananayagan

MUMBAI: Tamil entertainment is getting a fresh plot twist, and this one has plenty of chapters. Tamil Zee 5 has unveiled its upcoming content slate, led by Jananayagan, the highly anticipated film starring Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, alongside new theatrical premieres, returning franchises, original series, reality entertainment, AI-powered stories and live sports.

At the centre of the slate is Jananayagan, described by the platform as a landmark title in Vijay’s cinematic journey. The film marks his first release following his political transition and his final theatrical appearance, making its arrival on Tamil Zee 5 a particularly significant addition to the platform’s upcoming line-up.

The theatrical offering also includes Hi, starring Nayanthara and Kavin; Demonte Colony, featuring Arulnidhi and Priya Bhavani Shankar; Savithri, starring Keerthy Suresh; Nooru Kodi Vanavil, led by Harish Kalyan; and Raawadi, featuring Akshay Kumar and Basil Joseph.

Tamil Zee 5 is also doubling down on franchises that have already found an audience. Returning titles include Koose Munisamy Veerappan 2, Regai 2, Vilangu 2, Thadayam 2 and Sattamum 2.

The platform is adding fresh originals to the mix with Ananthakaalam, featuring Anand Neelakandan; Mix FM, directed by Nelson; Octopus from Cinemum; and Thaai Mann, featuring Muthukumar, Adithya Joshi and Lisha. Reality format Thee Kural will further expand the slate beyond scripted programming.

The line-up comes with new and continuing collaborations involving Tamil production houses including Dheeran Productions, Dream Warrior Pictures, KVM Productions, SS Group, 18 creators, Cocktail Cinemas, Passion Studios, Seven Screen Studios, Zee Studios, Drumsticks Production, Cinemum LLP and Happy Unicorn.

Lloyd Xavier, Business Head, Tamil, Telugu & Malayalam, Zee 5, said the slate is designed to bring together different voices and storytelling formats, with Jananayagan serving as a major addition alongside titles such as Hi, Savithri, Thadayam and Koose Munisamy Veerappan.

Tamil Zee 5’s content push is not stopping at conventional films and series. The platform is also lining up AI-powered storytelling titles including Garuda, Vikram Vetal, Shiv Sati, Chandrakanta, Tirupati Balaji, Barbarik Narmada and Ram Anjanay Yudh.

Children’s entertainment also gets a spot through Kundaka Mandakka, while the sports offering brings live coverage of FIFA, Bundesliga, Coppa Italia, Supercoppa Italiana and ILT20.

With films, fiction, non-fiction, mythology, children’s programming, AI-led stories, reality entertainment and sport in the mix, Tamil Zee 5 is widening its proposition beyond individual releases. The bigger play is to keep Tamil audiences moving from one story to the next, with Jananayagan providing the headline act.
