Snap introduces SPECS Intelligence, an anticipatory AI service across devices
AI service connects goals, routines and relationships to surface relevant information and actions
LOS ANGELES: Snap has introduced SPECS Intelligence, an anticipatory AI service designed to work across iPhone, Mac and SPECS augmented reality (AR) glasses.
The service builds an understanding of users’ goals, priorities, relationships and routines from the apps and tools they choose to connect. It is designed to carry that personal context across devices and provide relevant information and actions without users having to prompt it each time.
Snap co-founder and CEO Evan Spiegel said, “Computers should fit into our lives, not the other way around.” He added that SPECS Intelligence is designed to reduce the time people spend managing their lives.
SPECS Intelligence can surface relevant information ahead of events. Before a meeting, for instance, it can highlight decisions, questions and reminders. For a trip, it can bring together flight, hotel and dinner plans while flagging a work deadline that falls during the visit.
The service also includes Corners, which organise areas of life such as work and family, and Goals, which help users set and track objectives.
With SPECS AR glasses, the personal context can extend into the physical world. Users can ask “Hey SPECS” for flight details, hotel information, reservations and reminders, or request a daily briefing with schedules and meeting preparation.
Snap said users choose what information they connect to SPECS Intelligence. The company said Snap personnel cannot view or access personal content used with the service, while connected-account content will not be used to train or fine-tune its AI models or serve personalised ads.
The service uses on-device processing and secure cloud infrastructure, with security protections applied wherever data is processed.
Snap has opened a waitlist for invitation-only early access through the SPECS Mac app. Selected users will receive email invitations to sign in on Mac and connect their everyday apps.
Meanwhile, users aged 18 and above in the US can access a SPECS Intelligence preview through the SPECS iOS app without an invitation. By connecting a Google account, users can get insights into how they spend their time and attention based on Gmail and Google Calendar.
The mobile preview is limited to personal insights and does not include the broader service’s anticipatory suggestions or actions.
