Schitt’s Creek comes to Lionsgate Play in India from June 5
The Emmy-winning comedy series returns to streaming in India, giving fans a new home for the Rose family’s misadventures
The Roses have found a new address. Schitt’s Creek, the Emmy-winning Canadian comedy that became a global comfort-watch phenomenon, is coming exclusively to Lionsgate Play in India from June 5, ending a painful drought for fans who have been hunting for a way to rewatch the series since it disappeared from other platforms.
The show follows the wealthy Rose family — video store magnate Johnny, his theatrically eccentric wife Moira, and their grown children David and Alexis — who lose their fortune and are forced to rebuild their lives in Schitt’s Creek, a small town they once bought as a joke. What begins as a fish-out-of-water comedy slowly becomes one of television’s most unexpectedly moving stories about family, identity and belonging.
The ensemble cast features Eugene Levy, Catherine O’Hara, Dan Levy, Annie Murphy, Noah Reid, Emily Hampshire and Chris Elliott. It was created by Eugene Levy and Dan Levy, a father-and-son collaboration that neither had attempted before. “Getting to create something together after never having worked together before has honestly been a dream come true,” Dan Levy said.
Eugene Levy described the show’s emotional core as fundamentally domestic. “At its heart, the series is really about a family coming together and learning how to be a family again,” he said, adding that Catherine O’Hara, who plays the wig-swapping, malapropism-prone Moira, brought the character to life “in ways that we had never even imagined.”
Lionsgate Play, a premium streaming service from Lionsgate India and Starz, is available via Bharti Airtel, Prime Video Channels, Tata Play Binge, Jio FTTH and Apple TV, among others. Subscriptions are priced at Rs 449 per quarter and Rs 999 per year.
Six seasons. One very small town. The motel vacancy sign is officially lit again.
