Saregama Carvaan Luxe’s The Last Mughal sells out at Red Fort showcase
Dalrymple-led performance blends history and music in a packed Delhi cultural event
DELHI: A sold-out staging of The Last Mughal under Carvaan Luxe by Saregama India has drawn strong acclaim after being performed at the historic Red Fort, with more than 750 attendees witnessing the immersive cultural showcase.
The production, inspired by the work of historian William Dalrymple, blended live narration and classical music to recreate the atmosphere of late Mughal-era Delhi. Dalrymple himself delivered live readings from The Last Mughal: The Fall of a Dynasty, Delhi, 1857, while musician Vidya Shah added layered musical interpretations that brought the historical narrative to life.
Set within the very monument where key events of the story unfolded, the performance was widely praised for its authenticity and emotional depth. The carefully curated staging transformed the venue into a living historical canvas, offering audiences an intimate experience of Delhi’s past.
Reflecting on the performance, William Dalrymple said, “This performance was such a treat. How often do you get to hold court in the Red Fort? To witness such an engaged and appreciative audience in Delhi, a city so central to the story itself, was an added bonus.”
From the production side, Saregama India executive vice president films, series and events Siddharth Anand Kumar said the response reflected growing appetite for curated cultural storytelling.
He said, “The overwhelming response to The Last Mughal reinforces our vision with Carvaan Luxe, to curate premium, culturally rich experiences for discerning audiences. This is just the beginning of an exciting lineup of events we have planned in the coming months.”
The event was supported by partners including Sabhyata Foundation, Dalmia Bharat Group, Aadhyam Handwoven, HDFC and Homage.
With demand for immersive, experience-led cultural programming on the rise, the success of the Delhi showcase signals a growing appetite for storytelling that blends history, performance and place. Organisers have confirmed that additional editions and curated events under Carvaan Luxe will be announced in the coming months.
