Prime Video unveils trailer for Legally Blonde prequel Elle
All eight episodes debut on 1 July as Prime Video orders Season 2.
MUMBAI: Bend, snap, rewind. Before Harvard, before the courtroom and before she became pop culture’s pink-powered powerhouse, Elle Woods was simply trying to survive high school. Prime Video has released the official trailer for Elle, the highly anticipated prequel to the Legally Blonde franchise, while also confirming a second season even before the show’s first episode has aired.
Produced by Amazon MGM Studios in association with Hello Sunshine, the coming-of-age series will premiere all eight episodes of its first season on July 1, exclusively on Prime Video across more than 240 countries and territories worldwide.
Rather than revisiting Elle Woods’ famous journey through Harvard Law School, the series travels further back in time to 1995, exploring the teenage years that shaped one of cinema’s most recognisable characters.
Season One follows a young Elle Woods as she navigates the often-chaotic world of high school, complete with complicated friendships, forbidden romance and the kind of fashion decisions that are best left in the 1990s. While the setting may be different, the heart of the character remains familiar. The series places particular emphasis on Elle’s relationship with her family, especially her mother, as she gradually develops the confidence, resilience and optimism that audiences came to love in the original films.
At the centre of the story is Lexi Minetree, who steps into the iconic role of Elle Woods. She is joined by June Diane Raphael as Elle’s mother Eva and Tom Everett Scott as her father Wyatt. The ensemble cast also includes Jacob Moskovitz, Gabrielle Policano, Chandler Kinney, Zac Looker and Amy Pietz.
The recurring cast features a mix of familiar and fresh faces, including James Van Der Beek, David Burtka, Jessica Belkin, Kayla Maisonet, Lisa Yamada, Logan Shroyer, Matt Oberg, Sharon Taylor, Brad Harder, Chloe Wepper and Danielle Chand.
The series has been created by Laura Kittrell, known for her work on High School and Insecure. Kittrell also serves as co-showrunner and executive producer alongside Caroline Dries. Among the executive producers are Legally Blonde star Reese Witherspoon, whose production company Hello Sunshine has played a key role in bringing the project to life.
Adding further pedigree behind the camera, Jason Moore, director of Pitch Perfect, directed the first two episodes and serves as an executive producer. Julia Brownell and Eli Wilson Pelton are co-executive producers, while Bryan J. Raber, Asmita Paranjape, Josie Craven and Jen Regan round out the production team.
Prime Video’s decision to greenlight a second season ahead of the premiere signals strong confidence in the franchise’s enduring appeal. More than two decades after Legally Blonde first introduced audiences to the ambitious, endlessly optimistic Elle Woods, the character remains one of popular culture’s most beloved icons.
Now, viewers are set to discover the chapters that came before the pink wardrobe, courtroom victories and Harvard acceptance letter. If Legally Blonde was about proving everyone wrong, Elle appears ready to show how that determination was stitched into the character long before she ever stepped foot on a university campus.
