MUMBAI: When music runs in the family, the drama rarely stays on mute. Prime Video is bringing its new Telugu Original series Jagamae Sangeetham to screens worldwide on September 4, taking audiences into the world of Carnatic music, family rivalries and the search for an artistic identity.

Inspired by Prime Video’s Hindi Original Bandish Bandits, the musical drama is created and directed by Palnati Surya Pratap and produced by Sushmita Konidela. The series is written by Vangala Surya Manoj, Shravani Samudrala and A.R. Prabhav, with music composed by Vishal Chandrasekar.

Set against the traditions of Carnatic music, Jagamae Sangeetham follows Balu, the heir to his grandfather Shastri’s celebrated musical legacy. But inheriting a musical name comes with its own score to settle, as Balu finds himself caught between family expectations, old rivalries and secrets that threaten to fracture generations of tradition.

At the centre of the story is Balu’s struggle to preserve what his family has built while finding a voice of his own. As he looks beyond the boundaries of the musical tradition he has inherited, music becomes more than performance — it becomes the language through which the family expresses love, resentment, longing, pride and unresolved emotions.

The series features an ensemble cast led by Prakash Raj, Meka Srikanth, Madhubala, Akshay Lagusani and Sushmita Shetty, alongside Suman, Sijju Menon, Shafi, Jhansi, Raghu Babu Yerra, Rocket Raghava, Nagi Jabardasth, Mirchi Kiran, Keshav Deepak, Priyanka Nalkari, Manik Reddy, Prachi Thaker and Roopa Lakshmi.

Music is positioned as the backbone of the series, with Chandrasekar’s score blending Carnatic traditions with a contemporary sound. That musical contrast mirrors the central conflict, what happens when an inherited legacy meets a generation determined to interpret it differently.

Nikhil Madhok, Director and Head of SVOD Originals, Prime Video India, said the series explores family, legacy and self-discovery through music, while examining the tension between tradition and the courage to choose one’s own path.

For producer Sushmita Konidela, the intention was to make music the emotional language of the family rather than simply another element of the setting. She said the themes of legacy, belonging and finding one’s own voice are intended to resonate beyond the Carnatic music world.

Jagamae Sangeetham will stream exclusively on Prime Video in India and more than 240 countries and territories worldwide, in Telugu with English subtitles and Tamil dubs.
