Lionsgate Play partners with PlayboxTV to expand India reach
The Hollywood streaming platform is expanding its footprint in India by plugging its entire content library into one of the country’s fastest-growing aggregation platforms
MUMBAI: Lionsgate Play has struck a distribution partnership with PlayboxTV, giving the aggregator’s subscribers across all subscription plans access to the Hollywood streaming platform’s full content library in a single, seamless experience.
The tie-up is straightforward in its logic but significant in its reach. Lionsgate Play, which claims over 40 million viewers in India, brings a catalogue that spans franchise blockbusters, awards-circuit hits and regional originals. PlayboxTV, which has built its business on the proposition that Indians should not have to juggle multiple apps to find good content, gets one of the most distinctive Hollywood content destinations in the market added to its ecosystem.
The titles on offer are not modest. Subscribers will be able to watch action franchises including John Wick, The Expendables, Rambo, Greenland and Den of Thieves, alongside thrillers and dramas such as Paris Has Fallen, The Taj Story, Kabul, Shelter, Primitive War and Vigil, acclaimed series including Normal People and Heated Rivalry, and regional titles such as Soothravakyam, Kaalidas 2 and Detective Ujjwalan.
Vaibhavi Parikh, senior vice president for partnerships and alliances at Lionsgate Play, said distribution was as important as content to the platform’s strategy. “By integrating our globally celebrated content library with PlayboxTV’s growing consumer ecosystem, we are making premium storytelling more seamless and accessible for audiences, where they already are,” she said.
Aamir Mulani, founder and chief executive of PlayboxTV, said the partnership was a natural progression of the platform’s mission to simplify how India watches content. “Their reputation for bold, globally celebrated storytelling complements the diverse content ecosystem we are building,” he said.
Lionsgate Play, which has operated under founder-led ownership since 2025, is already distributed through a wide network of partners including Bharti Airtel, Prime Video Channels, Tata Play Binge, Jio FTTH, Apple TV and Amazon Firestick. Its app is available on Google Play Store, Apple App Store and Amazon Firestick at a quarterly subscription of Rs 449 and an annual subscription of Rs 999.
For two platforms whose entire pitch rests on making things easier for the Indian viewer, this one was not a hard sell.
