Kalpana Patowary and Shikriwal release Khus Raha from Maati Season 2

MUMBAI: When home is miles away, a mother’s blessing can travel farther than any train or city skyline. Warner Music India’s Maati Season 2 taps into that emotional distance with its second track, Khus Raha, bringing together Bhojpuri folk singer Kalpana Patowary and rapper, songwriter and producer Shikriwal.

Following the spiritual mood of Jalwa E Jaanaan, the new track turns inward to tell a story rooted in migration, sacrifice and the bond between a mother and her son. Composed by Nikhil-Swapnil and written by Pyarelal Yadav, Khus Raha combines Patowary’s folk-led vocals with Shikriwal’s hip-hop, jazz and cinematic production.

The song follows a familiar migrant story. A mother waits back home, while her young son faces the pressures of city life in the hope of building a better future. Her wish is simple that he stays safe and happy while his promise is to keep pushing through the struggle.

The accompanying music video gives that journey a more cinematic edge, with high-intensity stunt sequences involving heights, tube lights and fire. Rather than leaning on conventional Bhojpuri visual and musical cues, the track builds a contemporary soundscape and a stylised visual world around its emotional core.

Patowary said Maati is allowing folk music to be explored through a contemporary lens, while describing Khus Raha as a story of love, sacrifice and the distance created by leaving home. Shikriwal, meanwhile, dedicated the track to his mother and said collaborating with Patowary brought together two different musical sensibilities around a deeply personal subject.

For Nikhil-Swapnil, the challenge was to modernise the production without losing the emotional character of Bhojpuri folk. The resulting track places the mother-son relationship and the strength of a mother’s aashirwaad at the centre of the composition.

Maati Season 2 is also widening its canvas beyond conventional studio-led music videos. The season spans eight languages, including Kashmiri, Urdu, Bhojpuri, Haryanvi and Kannada, while using regional voices, authentic locations and contemporary musical experimentation to build stories around the communities and landscapes that inspire them.

With Khus Raha, Maati continues its attempt to make regional folk music speak in a contemporary musical language without leaving its emotional roots behind. The track is now available across major audio and video streaming platforms.
