Jagjit Singh Kohli launches Gurbani Tube, a digital home for Sikh faith content

MUMBAI: Faith and technology have circled each other warily for years, but Gurbani Tube is betting that the two can sit comfortably in the same app. TangoPlus Services has launched the platform on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store, timed to the auspicious occasion of the first Prakash Purab of Shri Guru Granth Sahibji, giving devotees worldwide a single destination for live Gurdwara telecasts, Kirtan, Katha, Nitnem Banis, Hukamnama Sahib and a broader library of Sikh history and devotional content.

The timing carries real weight. The launch falls in the silver jubilee year of uninterrupted live telecast of Gurbani from Sri Darbar Sahib, Amritsar, an initiative that completes 25 years of continuous broadcasting on November 30, 2026. That original broadcast began on ETC Punjabi in November 2001, after years of sustained effort, before continuing on PTC Punjabi, a channel also incubated in its early years by the same man now behind Gurbani Tube.

The platform is the brainchild of Jagjit Singh Kohli, the broadcaster credited with first bringing live Gurbani telecast from Sri Darbar Sahib to millions of devotees globally. Speaking at the launch, Kohli described the app as the realisation of a long-held dream to build an independent digital platform devoted entirely to Gurbani and Sikhism, aimed particularly at reaching younger devotees who engage with faith increasingly through the technology they use every day. He framed Gurbani Tube as a natural extension of the same perseverance that built the original television broadcast a quarter century ago.

What sets the platform apart, according to TangoPlus, is consolidation. Rather than leaving Sikh religious content scattered across thousands of channels and videos on general streaming platforms, Gurbani Tube brings live telecasts from Sri Harmandir Sahib and Gurdwaras worldwide, Sikh television channels, thousands of Kirtans by well-known Ragis, extensive Katha libraries, daily Nitnem Banis and Hukamnama Sahib, Gurpurab celebrations and curated devotional playlists under one roof, accessible to devotees whether they are in Amritsar, London, Vancouver, Melbourne, Kuala Lumpur, Nairobi, Dubai or California.

TangoPlus has also laid out a fairly ambitious roadmap. Future versions of the app are expected to extend to Android TV, Google TV, Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, and LG and Samsung smart television applications, alongside web access, AI-powered search across Shabads, Ragis and Kathawachaks, daily Hukamnama notifications, audio-only listening, offline downloads and a multi-language interface built for the global Sikh diaspora.

Kohli closed his remarks with a broader point about intent, arguing that technology ought to educate and inspire rather than merely entertain, and that Gurbani Tube’s purpose is to let any Sikh or seeker of spiritual wisdom connect instantly with the Guru’s teachings, wherever they happen to be. For TangoPlus, a company already working across OTT aggregation, IPTV and connected TV solutions, the launch extends its existing technology stack toward the preservation and global reach of India’s spiritual and cultural heritage.
