Fatima Sana Shaikh, Aneet Padda lead JioHotstar series Hunkkaar
The police and legal thriller follows a 17-year-old’s accusation against a cult leader
MUMBAI: When truth starts roaring, there is no keeping it quiet. Fatima Sana Shaikh, Aneet Padda and Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub are set to share screen space in Hunkkaar: The Roar, a new series that brings a police investigation, courtroom battle and media trial into the same explosive story.
The teaser, unveiled on Tuesday, introduces 17-year-old Meenu Rawat, whose accusation against revered cult leader Sunil Chakosi, known as ‘Baapji’, sets off an investigation that quickly grows into a national reckoning.
As the story unfolds, three characters emerge on different fronts of the same fight for truth. Fatima Sana Shaikh plays ACP Jasleen Singh Soni, while Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub takes on the role of an underdog lawyer, Bhalerao. A determined journalist, Amitabh, represents the media side of the battle.
The series places the three protagonists at the centre of a conflict where power, influence and public perception are all up for grabs. Rather than confining the story to a conventional investigation, Hunkkaar moves between the police station, courtroom and newsroom, combining the tension of a police procedural with the stakes of a legal drama and the volatility of a media trial.
Directed by Karan D Kapadia, Nitya Mehra and Heeraz Marfatia, the series also features Raghubir Yadav and Ram Kapoor, among others.
For Aneet Padda, Hunkkaar comes from an earlier chapter of her acting journey. The actor revealed that she shot for the series before her Bollywood debut in Saiyaara, describing the project as something that had been part of her journey for some time.
The series is created by Karan D Kapadia and Nitya Mehra and produced by Birla Studios and Applause Entertainment, in association with Purple Pebble Pictures, with A Mangata Films Production.
Hunkkaar: The Roar will begin streaming on September 25 on JioHotstar, bringing a story where the search for justice is set to play out simultaneously on the ground, in court and in the court of public opinion.
