MUMBAI: his Father’s Day, Indians didn’t just raise a toast to dad, they raised the bill too. Father’s Day celebrations grew bigger, sweeter and more indulgent across India this year, with Swiggy reporting a sharp rise in restaurant bookings, food orders and cake deliveries as families marked the occasion in style.

According to data shared by the on-demand convenience platform, premium dining reservations on Swiggy Dineout surged 42.6 per cent compared to Father’s Day last year, signalling a growing preference for experiential celebrations over routine outings. Overall dining bookings on the platform increased 16.9 per cent year-on-year.

Bengaluru emerged as the country’s dining capital for the occasion, seating the highest number of diners, followed by Delhi and Hyderabad. The trend was not limited to metros. Emerging cities recorded an even stronger 63.2 per cent increase in premium dining bookings, with Ahmedabad leading the pack, followed by Jaipur and Chandigarh.

Families were clearly willing to spend more to celebrate. The highest-value dining transaction came from Bengaluru, where a customer spent Rs 117,284 on a single Swiggy Dineout booking. Meanwhile, a gathering of 30 people in Dehradun became the largest group booking recorded on the platform during the celebrations.

The savings were substantial too. Diners across India collectively saved more than Rs 6.1 crore through Swiggy Dineout offers and deals on Father’s Day.

Away from restaurants, the celebrations continued at home. Food orders on Swiggy rose 16 per cent compared to Father’s Day 2025, while cakes once again emerged as the undisputed stars of the day.

Swiggy delivered an average of 9,757 cakes every hour, with Choco Lava Cakes, Choco Truffle Cakes and Pineapple Cakes topping the list of favourite Father’s Day treats. Demand peaked at 7:56 pm, when more than 500 cakes were ordered in a single minute.

Metro cities Bengaluru and Mumbai led the way with nearly 55,000 cake orders, but enthusiasm was equally strong in smaller markets. Patna, Dehradun and Ludhiana topped the charts among emerging cities, highlighting how Father’s Day is increasingly becoming a nationwide celebration.

One of the day’s most unusual orders came from Nagpur, where a customer purchased 24 cupcakes in flavours ranging from strawberry and blueberry to butterscotch and chocolate, making it the largest single cake order recorded on the platform.

The numbers point to a broader shift in how Father’s Day is being celebrated in India. What was once a relatively low-key occasion is increasingly becoming an opportunity for families to dine out, order in and splurge on experiences.

For restaurants, bakeries and delivery platforms, it appears that Father’s Day is fast joining the ranks of India’s major consumption-driven celebrations, one reservation, one cake and one family feast at a time.
