Local manufacturing share to rise to 20–30 per cent as TUF line joins production

MUMBAI: The keyboards may click globally, but more of them are about to be built closer to home. Asus is turning up the volume on its India manufacturing ambitions, with gaming laptops now entering the local production mix. Taiwanese PC maker Asus is significantly expanding its manufacturing footprint in India, with locally produced devices expected to account for 20–30 per cent of laptops sold in the country during the current financial year, up from around 10 per cent in FY25.

The expansion marks a notable step in the company’s localisation strategy and comes as India continues to position itself as a key electronics manufacturing hub.

A major driver behind the increase is Asus’ decision to begin manufacturing gaming laptops in the country. The company plans to locally produce models from its popular TUF gaming laptop range, with production scheduled to commence during the current fiscal year.

If successful, Asus believes it could become the first brand to manufacture gaming laptops in India, adding a new category to the country’s growing electronics production ecosystem.

The company aims to localise 25–30 per cent of TUF gaming laptop production, signalling a shift beyond conventional consumer laptops and into higher-performance devices that have traditionally relied on imports.

To support the initiative, Asus has partnered with an electronics manufacturing services provider in Chennai, further strengthening India’s role within the company’s global supply chain.

The move comes amid rising demand for gaming hardware and premium computing devices, categories that have witnessed steady growth as content creation, esports and AI-driven applications gain momentum.

Beyond manufacturing, Asus has been actively broadening its India strategy. In recent weeks, the company introduced new laptops across its ROG, ProArt and TUF portfolios, targeting gamers, creators and professional users. It has also expanded its after-sales ecosystem by making genuine replacement batteries available through select retail outlets across the country.

Artificial intelligence is increasingly shaping the company’s roadmap as well. Asus executives have indicated that AI-powered capabilities will become a key feature across product categories, even as the brand continues to focus on performance-led hardware innovation.

As global technology companies rethink supply chains and India pushes for greater localisation, Asus’ latest move reflects a broader industry trend: manufacturing is no longer just about assembly, it is becoming a strategic advantage.
