Aeos Games reveals new Unleash the Avatar trailer, opens Steam wishlist push
Aeos Games reveals new Soulslike gameplay as Steam wishlist campaign ramps up
BENGALURU: A soul-stirring showdown is on the horizon. Indian independent studio Aeos Games has unveiled a new gameplay and story trailer for its upcoming action RPG Unleash the Avatar, offering the most detailed look yet at the game’s combat, characters and mythological world.
The trailer debuted during a showcase hosted by Bilibili and places players in the shoes of protagonist Vikram as he battles Kinkara, a servant of Yama. The footage highlights a mix of classic Soulslike mechanics such as dodge and parry systems alongside unique abilities including ranged chakra attacks and a visually striking feather prism transformation.
Beyond combat, the trailer offers glimpses of the game’s narrative, characters and world-building, teasing what players can expect when the title launches on Steam.
In a major announcement accompanying the trailer, Aeos Games revealed that acclaimed voice actor Johnny Yong Bosch will voice Vikram. Bosch is widely recognised for his work across major franchises including Persona 4, Bleach, Devil May Cry and Power Rangers.
Aeos Games co-founder Varun Mayya said Bosch was chosen for his ability to capture both the vulnerability and determination at the heart of the character.
“Johnny Yong Bosch delivers exactly that. His performance perfectly captures the exhaustion of dying a thousand times in true Soulslike fashion, alongside the fiery defiance required to challenge godly powers,” said Mayya.
The announcement comes as Aeos Games intensifies its Steam wishlist campaign. The studio describes Unleash the Avatar as a completely self-funded project developed by a team of 40 people, combining experienced industry veterans with emerging talent.
According to the company, wishlist numbers are particularly important in today’s crowded games market. Data from SteamDB cited by the studio shows that more than 21,000 games were released on Steam during 2025 alone, making discoverability a growing challenge for independent developers.
Aeos Games CEO and co-founder Rohan Mayya said wishlists play a critical role in helping independent projects stand out.
“We believe there is a strong appetite for culturally distinct and mechanically challenging experiences within the Soulslike genre. Every wishlist helps demonstrate that demand and supports the game’s development journey,” said Rohan.
Inspired by Indian epics and mythology, Unleash the Avatar promises a high-fantasy world populated by Asuras and Rakshasas, alongside a combat system built around fragmented chakra mechanics, advanced enemy AI and precision-based parrying. The game also aims to distinguish itself through its handcrafted approach, avoiding battle passes and daily grind systems in favour of a premium single-player experience.
Adding further authenticity, Aeos Games says many of the environments have been created using photogrammetry assets captured from historic locations across India, helping recreate landscapes rooted in the country’s cultural heritage.
With a new trailer, a high-profile voice cast addition and a growing wishlist campaign, Unleash the Avatar is positioning itself as one of the most ambitious Indian-developed action games currently in development, blending mythological storytelling with the demanding gameplay that Soulslike fans have come to expect.
