New Delhi: Discovery is set to pull back the curtain on one of India’s most closely watched military operations. The broadcaster has announced Declassified: Operation Sindoor, a two-part documentary that promises a behind-the-scenes look at the planning and execution of the country’s 88-hour military campaign.

The documentary will premiere exclusively on Discovery and discovery+ on August 15, with the first part airing at 9 pm followed by the second at 10 pm.

According to Warner Bros. Discovery, the series chronicles the events following the Pahalgam terror attack, tracing India’s response from early strategic discussions and military planning through to the launch and execution of Operation Sindoor.

The documentary features perspectives from representatives of India’s armed forces, ground operatives, defence experts and journalists, offering first-hand accounts of the operation. It aims to go beyond the public narrative by exploring the strategic decisions, coordination and execution that remained undisclosed until now.

The programme also marks the launch of Discovery’s new Declassified documentary franchise, which will focus on pivotal historical events through exclusive access and detailed storytelling.

Warner Bros. Discovery head of factual entertainment, lifestyle and kids, South Asia Sai Abishek said the company sought to present the story with authenticity and responsibility.

“At Warner Bros. Discovery, we are committed to bringing audiences impactful stories that deepen their understanding of the world around them. Declassified: Operation Sindoor also marks the launch of our new Declassified franchise, through which we aim to bring audiences closer to defining moments that have shaped history,” Abishek said.

He added that being granted access to perspectives from all three branches of India’s armed forces and experts associated with the operation carried significant responsibility, and the documentary was produced with the rigour and sensitivity the subject demanded.

Beyond documenting military action, the film explores the human stories behind the operation, from preparations in war rooms to frontline decision-making during the conflict between two nuclear-armed neighbours.

With its blend of first-hand accounts and strategic insights, Declassified: Operation Sindoor aims to offer viewers a rare glimpse into one of the defining military operations in recent Indian history when it premieres on Independence Day.
