MUMBAI: Changing gears isn’t just for drivers. Uber is shifting its advertising ambitions into a higher gear. Uber has appointed Arpit Tyagi as head of advertising, India, as the ride-hailing platform steps up efforts to expand its advertising business in one of its fastest-growing global markets.

The appointment comes as Uber Advertising enters its next phase of growth in India, with the company establishing a dedicated local advertising team led by Tyagi and backed by its regional and global leadership. The move signals a deeper investment in building relationships with brands, agencies, merchants and marketers.

In his new role, Tyagi will oversee Uber Advertising’s commercial strategy and operations in India, focusing on expanding the platform’s advertising solutions and helping brands engage consumers during high-intent moments across Uber’s mobility ecosystem.

Tyagi brings more than 15 years of experience spanning advertising, media, marketing technology and digital transformation. Before joining Uber, he served as director for enterprise sales at The Trade Desk, where he led strategic partnerships with some of India’s largest advertisers and agencies. Earlier, he spent several years at Amazon Ads, helping brands leverage retail media and data-driven marketing solutions to accelerate business growth.

The appointment reflects Uber’s growing confidence in India’s advertising market, where its ad business has already partnered with more than 200 brands and agencies across sectors including CPG, media and entertainment, technology, e-commerce and retail.

Rather than relying solely on conventional digital advertising, Uber is positioning its platform around real-world consumer intent, enabling brands to reach users during everyday journeys when purchase decisions are often being made.

India has emerged as a key market in Uber Advertising’s global expansion. The business is currently available across more than 35 markets worldwide and continues to build products that combine mobility data with contextual advertising opportunities.

The leadership hire comes as competition intensifies in the retail media and mobility advertising space, with brands increasingly seeking measurable, data-led ways to engage consumers beyond traditional online channels.

With a dedicated India leadership team now in place and advertiser demand continuing to grow, Uber is looking to strengthen its position as a significant player in the country’s evolving advertising ecosystem.
