Zepto elevates Ashish Mittal to director – TPM
Former Amazon executive steps up after building Zepto’s TPM function from scratch
BENGALURU: Quick commerce platform Zepto has promoted Ashish Mittal to director – technical programme management (TPM), recognising his role in building the company’s TPM function and driving large-scale technology and cost-efficiency initiatives.
Mittal announced the promotion on LinkedIn, describing his two-year journey at Zepto as an “incredible ride” filled with challenges, opportunities and continuous learning.
“Thrilled to step up as Director – TPM at Zepto!” he wrote, thanking colleagues, mentors and Nikhil Mittal for their trust and support in helping establish the role from the ground up.
The elevation marks another milestone in Mittal’s career at Zepto, where he joined in July 2024 as the company’s first technical programme manager. In that role, he helped create the TPM function, overseeing cross-functional programmes spanning technology, product, operations and customer experience.
Among his early contributions was leading the technology programme behind Zepto Pharmacy, including prescription upload workflows, compliance systems and regulated fulfilment capabilities. He also spearheaded the company’s 24×7 delivery enablement initiative and established operational frameworks for handling peak-demand events.
Mittal was promoted to associate director – TPM in April 2025, taking on a broader mandate within the CTO’s Office. During his tenure, he led several strategic technology cost optimisation programmes that became some of the company’s most impactful efficiency initiatives.
According to details shared on his professional profile, these efforts helped reduce Zepto’s technology cost per order by around 62 per cent within 10 months. He also drove initiatives that generated approximately $4 million in annual cloud cost savings through infrastructure and platform-level optimisation.
His work extended beyond cost management. Mittal led build-versus-buy evaluations across engineering and marketing functions, helping the company reduce reliance on third-party software platforms through the development of in-house solutions. He also established Zepto’s technology capitalisation process, creating a financial framework to manage and account for technology investments across the organisation.
In addition, he has been overseeing the company’s ISO 27001 implementation programme and leading platform scalability and architecture initiatives aimed at supporting Zepto’s rapid growth.
Before joining Zepto, Mittal spent nearly six years at Amazon, where he worked across seller experience, transportation and customer returns programmes. As TPM II, he managed large-scale technology initiatives across multiple international marketplaces, including the United States, Japan, Brazil and the UAE.
Earlier in his Amazon career, he held quality assurance engineering roles and contributed to automation, deployment and platform reliability programmes. One of his notable projects involved leading a CI/CD transformation initiative across 14 technology teams, significantly improving deployment efficiency.
Mittal began his professional journey at Tata Consultancy Services, where he worked on technology projects for Bank of America Merrill Lynch’s Global Wealth and Investment Management division. During his tenure, he also served as scrum master for distributed engineering teams.
A graduate in electronics and communications engineering from Bipin Tripathi Kumaon Institute of Technology, Mittal brings more than 11 years of experience across programme management, engineering operations and technology transformation.
His promotion comes as Zepto continues to invest heavily in technology infrastructure and operational efficiency to support its rapid expansion in India’s highly competitive quick commerce market. With growing scale and increasing complexity, leaders capable of balancing innovation, governance and cost discipline are becoming increasingly central to the company’s growth strategy.
