Bangla Zee5 to stream The Academy Of Fine Arts as series
Critically acclaimed film returns in six-episode uncensored format on 29 May.
MUMBAI: Some stories refuse to stay inside a single frame. This one is breaking out of the movie screen and stretching its intrigue across six episodes. Bangla Zee5 is set to premiere The Academy Of Fine Arts: The Series Raw & Uncensored on 29 May 2026, repackaging director Jayabrata Das’ critically acclaimed dark comedy action thriller into a six-episode streaming series. The move gives the film a new life in long-form storytelling, allowing audiences to dive deeper into its world of crime, deception and chaos. The series retains its raw and uncensored edge while expanding the experience for streaming viewers.
At the centre of the story is Porichoy Gupto, a mysterious mastermind who assembles an unlikely team of five criminals for what appears to be a straightforward heist. Dinabandhu, played by Rudranil Ghosh, Rakhal portrayed by the late Rahul Arunoday Banerjee, Bireshwar, Sachin and Jibonto are recruited to steal a priceless antique wine bottle from feared gang leader Kim Ling.
As with most cinematic plans that sound too good to be true, things unravel quickly.
What begins as a carefully orchestrated robbery spirals into a maze of betrayals, shifting loyalties, bloodshed and personal conflicts. The narrative blends dark humour, romance, suspense and action, creating a story where every alliance appears temporary and every character seems to be hiding something.
The ensemble cast includes Rudranil Ghosh, Payel Sarkar, the late Rahul Arunoday Banerjee, Sourav Das, Rishav Basu, Anuradha Mukherjee, Rishika Nag, Sudip Mukherjee and Rahul Saha in pivotal roles.
The adaptation reflects a broader trend in streaming, where acclaimed films are increasingly being reimagined into episodic formats to offer richer character arcs and extended storytelling. For Bangla Zee5, it also adds another original title to a growing catalogue aimed at regional audiences seeking genre-driven content.
Jointly produced by Prateek Chakravorty and Saumya Sarkar, with Sanket Mishra and Manab Saha serving as co-producers, the series combines crime-thriller tension with moments of sharp humour and emotional complexity.
For viewers, the proposition is simple: one antique bottle, five criminals, countless secrets and six episodes of steadily escalating trouble. Sometimes the perfect crime makes for the perfect binge.
