G-Shock teams up with Joshua Vides for bold art watches
Limited-edition drop reimagines DW-6900 and DW-5600 in monochrome.
MUMBAI: Tick-tock just turned into sketchbook o’clock. G-Shock has teamed up with internationally acclaimed artist-designer Joshua Vides for a striking new collaboration that turns two of the brand’s most iconic watches into wearable pieces of graphic art proof that even time can come with a hand-drawn edge. The limited-edition collection reworks the legendary DW-6900 and DW-5600 silhouettes through Vides’ signature black-and-white visual language, known globally for transforming everyday objects into comic-book-style creations.
And the result? Watches that look as though they have leapt straight out of an artist’s notebook and onto the wrist.
The DW-6900JV-1 arrives in a matte black finish layered with crisp white graphics, giving the rugged timepiece a sharp yet understated look. Meanwhile, the DW-5600JV-7 flips the contrast with a glossy white base and bold black detailing, creating a louder, more eye-catching aesthetic.
But the collaboration is not all surface-level styling.
A hidden touch arrives when the LED backlight is activated, revealing Joshua Vides’ signature “Cone” motif, a playful nod to the artist’s wider creative universe. Both models also come housed in exclusive custom packaging, pushing the release firmly into collector’s edition territory.
Despite the artistic makeover, G-Shock has kept its trademark toughness fully intact.
The watches continue to feature shock-resistant construction, Super Illuminator LED backlight with afterglow, flash alerts, a 1/100-second stopwatch, countdown timer, multi-function alarm, hourly time signal and a full auto-calendar extending to the year 2099. Battery life stands at approximately five years, with accuracy maintained at ±15 seconds per month.
In other words, the watches may look like gallery pieces, but they are still built to survive everyday chaos.
Joshua Vides, whose multidisciplinary work spans murals, installations, sculptures and global fashion collaborations, has built a cult following through his instantly recognisable monochrome style inspired by comics, street art and industrial design. His visual identity finds an easy match in G-Shock’s long-standing reputation for boldness and cultural experimentation.
Since its debut in 1983, G-Shock has evolved far beyond a functional watch brand, increasingly becoming a canvas for collaborations that sit at the intersection of design, fashion, music and street culture.
Priced at Rs 12,995, the DW-6900JV-1 and DW-5600JV-7 will be available through select G-Shockstores and online platforms in India.
Because sometimes, the best way to make a statement is to wear your doodles on your sleeve or in this case, your wrist.
