Flipkart’s Too Hot to Handle, Uncle campaign turns summer chaos into comedy
SASA LELE sale film uses humour and heatwave quirks to spotlight cooling deals
MUMBAI: Flipkart has rolled out a humour-led summer campaign titled Too Hot to Handle, Uncle ahead of its upcoming SASA LELE Sale, which begins on May 9.
Created by 22feet, the campaign taps into a familiar Indian summer stereotype: uncles battling soaring temperatures in increasingly amusing ways. From lounging around in baniyans to becoming unintentionally awkward hosts during family visits, the film turns everyday heatwave behaviour into relatable comedy.
At the same time, the campaign positions Flipkart as a destination for cooling appliances and summer essentials, encouraging shoppers to upgrade their homes during the sale event.
Speaking about the campaign, Flipkart vice president growth and marketing Pratik Shetty said the creative idea emerged from a common summer observation.
He said, “We have used Indian uncles as a premise to talk about summer heat and linking it to the current sale period. We found it insightful and entertaining that the summer heat comes with its own fashion choices.”
The film also carries a dose of cinematic humour, with creative cues inspired by actor Vijay Raaz’s signature comic style.
Sharing the agency’s perspective, 22feet chief creative experience officer Vishnu Srivastav said the campaign explores not just the discomfort of summer, but the social embarrassment that often comes with it.
He said, “The classic summer uncle phenomenon returns every summer and is endured by the rest of the country. We all know the obvious enemy, which is heat. But when we looked beyond that, we found another enemy, which is the sheer embarrassment that family members go through.”
The campaign blends cultural insight with light-hearted storytelling, a formula increasingly favoured by ecommerce brands trying to cut through crowded festive and seasonal advertising cycles.
With Too Hot to Handle, Uncle, Flipkart is turning sweaty summer moments into a sales pitch with a wink, reminding shoppers that when the heat rises, humour and home appliances might just be the coolest combination.
