Network18 tops election day viewership across TV and digital
Network logged 303.2 million views and 2 million peak Youtube viewers.
MUMBAI: As vote counts climbed, so did the view counters. On India’s high-voltage Counting Day, Network18 turned election coverage into a full-scale digital spectacle, pulling in more than 2 million peak concurrent viewers on Youtube and clocking a staggering 303.2 million total views across brands and platforms on 4 May 2026. The performance underlines how election coverage in India is no longer confined to television screens and ticker tapes. It is now a live, platform-hopping, second-screen marathon and this year, Network18 appears to have owned the scroll.
In Hindi news, News18 India emerged as the top live-viewed channel, recording an average live concurrency of 631,000 viewers between 7 am and 10 pm, according to Databeings. At its peak around 9 pm, the channel hit 1.2 million concurrent viewers, the highest among Hindi news channels on Counting Day.
English news saw a similar pattern. CNN-News18 maintained leadership throughout the day with an average live concurrency of 134,900 viewers and a peak concurrency of 318,600 at 6:20 pm.
The network’s regional channels also delivered heavyweight numbers. News18 Bangla touched a peak concurrency of 722,400 viewers at 12:45 pm, outperforming regional rivals, while News18 Tamil hit a peak of 411,000 viewers during the morning counting rush.
Business news platforms added further muscle to the network’s overall tally. CNBC-TV18 recorded a peak concurrency of 181,900 viewers, while Moneycontrol reached 132,200 during the day’s market and election crossovers.
But the bigger story may lie in the scale of digital consumption itself.
Network18 said its platforms collectively generated 303.2 million views on Counting Day alone, reinforcing the growing dominance of live digital news during national events. The momentum had already been building. In April 2026, the network crossed 5.5 billion YouTube views across its news portfolio, according to Databeings data.
The numbers also reflect a broader industry shift where election audiences increasingly split their attention across linear television, connected TV, YouTube livestreams and social feeds simultaneously.
Network18 leaned heavily into that integrated model this election cycle, combining its News18 Live Result Hub, constituency-level reporting and studio analysis into a cross-platform coverage engine designed for real-time engagement.
And if Counting Day once belonged to television anchors alone, 2026 proved the battleground has expanded far beyond the TV set.
Because in India’s election season now, every vote may count but every view counts too.
