NEW DELHI: IndiGo is witnessing another senior-level exit, with Vinay Malhotra stepping down as head of global sales, months after the departure of former chief executive Pieter Elbers.

In a resignation letter addressed to Rahul Bhatia, Malhotra said he would be moving on to explore advisory roles outside the aviation sector, alongside personal pursuits. He has requested to be relieved by July 3, 2026, and will focus on transition responsibilities including relationship handovers and succession planning during his notice period.

Malhotra described his tenure as a “distinct privilege”, highlighting the role of the leadership team in shaping the airline’s commercial strategy and driving sales growth over the past four years.

The move adds to a phase of leadership transition at InterGlobe Aviation, which operates IndiGo, even as the airline continues to dominate India’s aviation market with a domestic share of over 64 percent.

The churn comes against the backdrop of a softer financial performance. IndiGo reported a 77.55 percent year-on-year decline in consolidated profit for the December quarter, falling to Rs 549.8 crore from Rs 2,448.8 crore a year earlier.

Revenue, however, remained relatively steady, rising 6.2 percent year-on-year to Rs 23,471.9 crore, indicating continued strength in passenger demand despite pressure on margins.

With Rahul Bhatia currently overseeing operations, the airline appears to be balancing leadership changes with operational continuity. How it steadies both its management bench and profitability will be closely watched in the months ahead.
