Samsung appoints Lee Won-jin to lead Visual Display unit
Leadership change sees marketing veteran take charge of TV business.
MUMBAI- Samsung is changing the channel at the top hoping a fresh face can sharpen its screen strategy. Samsung Electronics has appointed Lee Won-jin as the new head of its Visual Display Business, marking a leadership shift in its global television and display division.
Lee takes over from Yong Seok-woo, who has been moved into an advisory role within the company’s Device eXperience (DX) division as part of what Samsung described as a routine executive reshuffle.
A marketing veteran, Lee previously led Samsung’s Global Marketing Office and joined the company in 2014 after a stint at Google. His experience spans brand strategy and ecosystem development across Samsung’s television and mobile businesses credentials that now place him at the helm of one of the company’s most critical consumer-facing units.
The Visual Display Business, which oversees Samsung’s global TV and display operations, remains a core revenue driver within its consumer electronics portfolio. However, the division has been navigating intensifying competition, particularly in the mid-range and value segments, alongside evolving global demand patterns.
Samsung said Lee’s mandate will centre on strengthening competitiveness and identifying new growth opportunities, though it stopped short of outlining specific strategic changes.
Meanwhile, Yong Seok-woo is expected to continue contributing in an advisory capacity, focusing on broader device experience initiatives across Samsung’s ecosystem.
The leadership move comes as part of Samsung’s periodic management realignments, designed to keep pace with shifting market dynamics. With televisions still a cornerstone of its global product strategy, the appointment signals a familiar playbook: new leadership, same high-stakes screen.
