Middle East broadcaster Orbit adds Turner’s kids channel Boomerang to its offerings

MUMBAI: Middle East broadcaster The Orbit Satellite and Radio Network has added Turner’s channel Boomerang to its complement of family entertainment packages.

Boomerang is an animation channel and can be enjoyed by all Mega, Prime and Kids package subscribers across the Middle East and North Africa.

Predominantly aimed at 4 – 9 year olds, Boomerang is dedicated to some of the best-loved classic cartoons ever made, including Top Cat, Bugs Bunny, Wacky Races, Captain Caveman, The Hair Bear Bunch and Penelope Pitstop, among others.

TBS senior VP and MD Middle East Ron Ciccone said: “This deal is fantastic news for both companies and all subscribers. Cartoon Network is already extremely popular with Orbit viewers and the launch of Boomerang means we can offer something to all cartoon lovers throughout this region. Boomerang is a wonderful channel with appeal for all ages, an enormous range of cartoons and it’s a great place for people to go when they want to relax and laugh.

“Our increased presence on Orbit will provide us with a great vehicle to build our profile in this key business market and we are looking forward to strengthening our relationship with Orbit and the offerings to their subscribers over the coming months.”

Orbit senior VP western programming and creative services Khulud Abu-Homos said, “Looking through the Boomerang schedule is like taking a walk down memory lane for many of us who enjoyed shows like the Flintstones and Tom & Jerry when we were kids. As the saying goes, ‘history repeats itself’ and in the spirit of the action of a boomerang, the real excitement of the channel is that its programmes have come back again, retaining all of their freshness and appeal for the next generation.”

Orbit positions itself as world’s first fully digital, multi-channel, multi-lingual pay television platform that broadcasts 33 television channels and 20 music radio stations to the Middle East and North Africa.

Mukta Arts and Green Gold ink MOU to animate iconic film IPs

Kalicharan, Karz, Hero, Karma, Ram Lakhan to spawn animated shows plus features.

MUMBAI: When classic hindi movie meets animation, the result is a fresh reel of nostalgia with a cartoon twist. Mukta Arts Ltd. and Green Gold Animation have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to collaborate on animated shows and feature films drawn from Mukta Arts’ four-decade treasure trove of iconic IPs. The partnership taps Mukta’s SGM Animation Studio launched in 2025 as its dedicated animation and games arm and Green Gold’s proven track record in building scalable, homegrown franchises. Creative teams from both sides have already kicked off discussions, with the first project currently in development.

The slate will draw inspiration from landmark Mukta films including Kalicharan, Karz, Hero, Karma, Ram Lakhan, Khalnayak, Saudagar and Iqbal, plus character-led spin-offs from those universes. The aim is to reimagine these stories for today’s young, global audiences while preserving their emotional core.

Green Gold Animation (home of Chhota Bheem) founder and CEO Rajiv Chilaka said, “This partnership with SGM Studios allows us to apply our experience in building long-lasting animation IPs to a truly iconic film catalogue. Together, we aim to create animated worlds that are rooted in these legendary stories, yet designed to connect with today’s young, global audiences.”

Mukta Arts Ltd. filmmaker and founder Subhash Ghai added, “Mukta Arts has always believed in creating stories with lasting emotional value. Through animation, we are extending our IP into a new medium for the next generation.”

In an industry where timeless tales never go out of fashion, this collaboration promises to bring beloved characters back to life with a modern, animated glow proving that some stories are too good to stay in live-action. Stay tuned for the first animated frame to drop.
