NEW DELHI: India’s digital public service network is getting bigger by the day, with UMANG and DigiLocker together now serving more than 84 crore registered users as the government expands access to citizen-centric services.

As of July 31, 2026, around 2,575 government services were available on UMANG, or the Unified Mobile Application for New-age Governance. These included 880 central government and 1,695 state government services.

DigiLocker, meanwhile, offered 5,437 document types and services, comprising 661 from the central government and 4,776 from state governments.

UMANG has more than 11.66 crore registered users and recorded around 798 crore transactions over the past three years. DigiLocker has more than 72.43 crore registered users and recorded about 72.86 crore document access transactions during the same period.

Both platforms are part of the broader Digital India programme, launched by the government in July 2015 to expand digital access and improve the delivery of public services.

The government is also using Common Service Centres (CSCs) to extend digital services to rural and remote areas. These centres offer services spanning government schemes, banking, financial services, insurance, pensions and utility payments.

As of June 30, 2026, 4,07,122 CSCs were operational at the Gram Panchayat level. Of these, 70,069 were run by women Village Level Entrepreneurs.

UMANG and DigiLocker are available through both mobile applications and web portals, allowing citizens to access services without being tied to a physical location.

The platforms are also integrated with key Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) components, including Aadhaar, eSign and API Setu. This allows services to be delivered digitally and reduces the need for repeated paperwork.

Security is another focus, with both platforms supporting digital authentication, document verification and consent-based sharing. The aim is to make public service delivery more paperless while reducing the need for citizens to visit government offices.

The government is also promoting digital literacy through initiatives such as the Pradhan Mantri Gramin Digital Saksharta Abhiyan (PMGDISHA), alongside awareness campaigns aimed at encouraging wider use of digital platforms.

UMANG and DigiLocker offer services in multiple Indian languages and are being continuously upgraded to improve accessibility and user experience.

Government departments and state governments are also being regularly onboarded, expanding the range of services and documents available through the two platforms.

With millions of users already relying on UMANG for services and DigiLocker for digital documents, the government’s next task is less about putting services online and more about ensuring that every citizen can access them easily, securely and without a paper trail.
