Infinix HOT 70 Pro launches in India with Active Matrix Cube and 144Hz display

NEW DELHI: If smartphones are getting smarter, Infinix wants them to get a little more lively too.

Infinix has launched the HOT 70 Pro in India, bringing an unusual mix of expressive design, rear-panel lighting effects and upgraded hardware to the mid-range smartphone segment. Its headline feature is the Active Matrix Cube, a rear-facing interactive display designed to do more than simply blink when a notification arrives.

Starting at ₹22,999 under the Day 1 offer, inclusive of applicable bank offers, the HOT 70 Pro is available in four finishes: Silk Glow Purple, Dive Blue, Thermo Orange and Mirage Green. Buyers can choose between 6GB RAM with 128GB storage and 8GB RAM with 128GB storage.

The HOT 70 Pro introduces Infinix’s Dynamic Shine Design, which makes the phone’s finish part of the experience rather than simply a choice of colour.

The Thermo Orange variant uses a thermochromic finish that changes colour with temperature. Mirage Green reacts to UV light and can glow in the dark, while Silk Glow Purple uses a textured finish that shifts visually as the phone is viewed from different angles. Dive Blue takes a more understated route with a sleek matte finish.

The handset measures up to 7.85mm thick and is designed with a smooth finish for everyday handling.

The Active Matrix Cube is arguably the HOT 70 Pro’s most distinctive addition. Positioned on the rear of the handset, it uses interactive visual effects for notifications, calls, charging, gaming and other activities.

Users can see visual alerts for incoming calls and messages, charging, low battery, camera use, video, countdowns and weather, even when the phone is placed face down.

The feature also goes beyond notifications. Matrix Studio allows users to create personalised patterns and emojis, while mini-games such as Lucky Wheel and Lucky Numbers turn the rear panel into a small entertainment zone. Creations can also be shared with another HOT 70 Pro.

Infinix describes the Active Matrix Cube as the first such feature in its segment in India at the time of launch.

“Infinix thinks smartphones can have more personality too,” said Infinix India chief marketing officer Miraj Gupta. “HOT 70 Pro brings performance and personality together.”

Photography gets a sizeable upgrade with a 50MP Sony IMX882 main camera, paired with features including 2x lossless zoom, Live Photo, AI Eraser and AI Extender.

The AI Eraser is designed to remove unwanted people or objects from photographs, while Live Photo captures moments with a little more movement than a conventional still image. There is also a one-tap Vlog mode aimed at users who want to turn everyday clips into quick social-ready videos.

An 8MP front camera handles selfies and video calls.

The HOT 70 Pro sports a 6.76-inch FHD+ punch-hole display with a 144Hz refresh rate and up to around 910 nits of HBM brightness. A 240Hz touch sampling rate is designed to make taps and swipes feel more responsive, particularly during gaming.

The display also includes eye-care features and Motion Sickness Relief, while the small punch-hole design helps the screen achieve a claimed screen-to-body ratio of up to 91.86%.

Under the bonnet, the phone runs on the MediaTek Dimensity 7100 5G chipset, with an octa-core CPU and Mali-G57 GPU. Infinix claims an AnTuTu score of more than 780,000 using V11 testing.

The company also says the phone can support up to 90fps in popular games, while UFS 2.2 storage is intended to keep everyday app loading and switching reasonably snappy.

Power comes from a 6,000mAh battery with 45W fast charging. Infinix says the phone can reach 50% charge in around 25 minutes and a full charge in roughly 63 minutes under its stated testing conditions.

Users can choose between Super Fast Charging and Smart Charging modes, with the latter designed to prioritise battery care. The phone also supports up to 10W reverse charging.

Durability gets a significant boost too. The HOT 70 Pro carries an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance, with Infinix claiming protection in up to 2 metres of fresh water for 30 minutes.

That makes it the first IP68-rated model in the HOT Series and a notable step up in protection for the brand’s smartphone line-up.

The HOT 70 Pro runs XOS 16 based on Android 16 and comes with a promise of three major OS upgrades and five years of security updates.

A dedicated One-Tap AI Button provides shortcuts to more than 50 apps and can also be assigned to Gemini for quick access to AI assistance. The power button offers another route to Gemini.

Connectivity features include NFC, adding support for compatible contactless and instant-transfer functions.

The Infinix HOT 70 Pro starts at ₹22,999 under the Day 1 offer and will be sold through Flipkart and retail stores across India. No-cost EMI options are available for three, six and nine months.

With a 144Hz display, 6,000mAh battery, IP68 protection and a Sony camera, the HOT 70 Pro has plenty of familiar smartphone ingredients. Its real attempt at standing out, however, is quite literally on the back: the Active Matrix Cube gives Infinix a playful new way to make the phone feel a little less like every other slab in your pocket.
