Four Domino’s outlets lose licences amid Maharashtra FDA food safety action
Inspections flagged pest control, food storage and sanitation lapses across four outlets
MUMBAI: Domino’s has found itself in a bit of a sticky situation, with the Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration suspending the food-business licences of four outlets operated by Jubilant FoodWorks over food safety and hygiene violations.
The affected outlets are located in Vile Parle West, Borivali West and R-City Mall in Ghatkopar, Mumbai, and Malakapour in Karad, Satara.
According to officials cited by PTI, inspections found several deficiencies, including inadequate hygiene and sanitation, pest-control problems, improper food storage and temperature monitoring, and incomplete food-safety records.
Inspectors also flagged a lack of proper segregation between raw ingredients and ready-to-eat food, raising concerns over potential cross-contamination.
The action has been taken under the Food Safety and Standards (Licensing and Registration of Food Businesses) Regulations, 2011.
The latest move is part of a wider food-safety crackdown by the Maharashtra FDA, which has stepped up inspections of food businesses across the state.
The regulator recently suspended the food licence of a Blink Commerce facility in Mumbai following findings of extensive cockroach infestation and improper storage of food items. A Reliance Retail outlet also came under scrutiny after live larvae were allegedly found in a popular sweet product.
The FDA’s increased surveillance comes alongside broader enforcement activity across Maharashtra. On Wednesday, officials inspected 434 licensed Ayurvedic drug manufacturing establishments to assess compliance with manufacturing and quality-control standards under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940, and related rules.
Following those inspections, the Maharashtra FDA issued show-cause notices to 135 manufacturers over various violations and instances of non-compliance.
For the four Domino’s outlets, the licence suspensions put food-safety compliance firmly back on the menu as Maharashtra’s regulator intensifies its checks across the food and consumer-products sector.
