BARC week 9: Sony Pal tops Hindi GEC (U+R) markets

MUMBAI: Sony Pal emerged as the leader in Hindi GEC (U+R) markets dethroning Star Bharat in week 9 of Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) all India data. Sony Pal has taken jumped two slots to take pole position in the Hindi GEC (U+R) markets while Zee Anmol has shifted to the third position from second as compared to week 8 of BARC India data.

In the Hindi GEC rural market, Zee Anmol retained its leadership position. Star Bharat jumped to the third slot pushing Star Utsav to the fourth slot.

In Hindi GEC urban markets, no major change has been witnessed in week 9. All the ten channels in urban markets have retained their positions with Colors topping the urbanchart.

Hindi GEC (U+R)

Sony Pal topped the chart with 753407 impressions (000s). Week 8’s leader Star Bharat was pushed to the second position with 750429 impressions (000s). Zee Anmol slid down to the third slot this week from second, as compared to last week of BARC India.

Star Utsav jumped two slots to the fourth position with 530012 impressions (000s). Zee TV has fallen to the fifth position with 522300 impressions (000s). Colors, by falling two slots down as compared to last week, booked the sixth place with 488058 impressions (000s).

Star Plus, Rishtey, SET and Sony Sab retained their seventh, eighth, ninth and tenth positions with 455366 impressions (000s), 436296 impressions (000s), 431930 impressions (000s) and 404767 impressions (000s).

Hindi Rural GEC

Zee Anmol retained its first position with 532931 impressions (000s). Sony Pal retained its second position with 517747 impressions (000s). Star Bharat climbed to the third slot this week with 402760 impressions (000s). Star Utsav booked fourth position with 384218 impressions (000s).

Rishtey, Dangal TV, Zee TV retained their fifth, sixth and seventh positions with 307442 impressions (000s), 231124 impressions (000s) and 212838 impressions (000s).

Big Magic and Star Plus have swapped their last week’s positions with the former at eighth with 181473 impressions (000s) and Star Plus at ninth with 139194 impressions (000s). Colors retained its tenth position with 137280 impressions (000s).
Hindi Urban GEC

In urban GEC, Colors and Star Bharat retained their first and second positions with 350778 impressions (000s) and 347669 impressions (000s), respectively.

Star Plus and Zee TV also maintained their third and fourth positions this week with 316171 impressions (000s) and 309461 impressions (000s), respectively.

Hamdard honours changemakers at Abdul Hameed awards

NEW DELHI: Hamdard Laboratories gathered a cross-section of India’s achievers in New Delhi on Friday, handing out the Hakeem Abdul Hameed Excellence Awards to figures who have left their mark across healthcare, education, sport, public service and the arts.

The ceremony, attended by minister of state for defence Sanjay Seth and senior officials from the ministry of Ayush, celebrated individuals whose work blends professional success with a sense of public purpose. It was as much a roll call of achievement as it was a reminder that influence is not measured only in profits or podiums, but in people reached and lives improved.

Among the headline awardees was Alakh Pandey, founder and chief executive of PhysicsWallah, recognised for turning affordable digital learning into a mass movement. On the sporting front, Arjuna Awardee and kabaddi player Sakshi Puniya was honoured for her contribution to the game and for pushing women’s participation onto bigger stages.

The cultural spotlight fell on veteran lyricist and poet Santosh Anand, whose songs have echoed across generations of Hindi cinema. At 97, Anand accepted the honour with characteristic humility, reflecting on a life shaped by perseverance and hope.

Healthcare honours spanned both modern and traditional systems. Manoj N. Nesari was recognised for strengthening Ayurveda’s place in national and global health frameworks. Padma shri Mohammed Abdul Waheed was honoured for his research-backed work in Unani medicine, while padma shri Mohsin Wali received recognition for his long-standing contribution to patient-centred care.

Education and social development also featured prominently. Padma shri Zahir Ishaq Kazi was honoured for decades of work in education, while former Meghalaya superintendent of Police T. C. Chacko was recognised for public service. Goonj founder Anshu Gupta received an award for his dignity-centred rural development initiatives, and the Hunar Shakti Foundation was honoured for empowering women and young girls through skill development.

The Lifetime Achievement Award went to former IAS officer Shailaja Chandra for her long career in public healthcare and governance, particularly in the traditional systems under Ayush.

Speaking at the event, Hamdard chairman Abdul Majeed said the awards were a tribute to those who combine excellence with empathy. “These awardees reflect Hakeem Sahib’s belief that healthcare, education and public service must ultimately serve humanity,” he said.

Minister Seth struck a forward-looking note, saying India’s young population gives the country a unique opportunity to become a global destination for learning, health and wellness by 2047.

The ceremony also featured the trailer launch of Unani Ki Kahaani, an upcoming documentary starring actor Jim Sarbh, set to premiere on Discovery on 11 February.

Instituted in memory of Unani scholar and educationist Hakeem Abdul Hameed, the awards have grown into a national platform that celebrates those building a more inclusive and resilient India. For one evening at least, the spotlight was not just on success, but on service with substance.
