MUMBAI: Trust is back on the chopping block, and betrayal is once again ready for prime time. Prime Video has announced that the second season of its reality original The Traitors will premiere globally on 13 August, with host Karan Johar returning to preside over a fresh contest of deception, strategy and psychological mind games.

The Indian adaptation of the internationally acclaimed reality format will stream exclusively on Prime Video, with new episodes releasing every Thursday.

Produced by Dharmatic Entertainment in collaboration with All3Media International, which distributes the original format created by IDTV, the series returns after a debut season that emerged as one of Prime Video India’s biggest reality successes.

The new season will see 21 celebrity contestants compete for the grand prize, the title and ultimate bragging rights in a contest built around trust, manipulation and elimination.

Globally, The Traitors has been adapted in more than 40 territories, making it one of the fastest-growing reality formats in recent years. The franchise has also earned BAFTA and Emmy recognition, evolving into a global pop culture phenomenon.

Prime Video said the upcoming edition will raise the stakes with more intense gameplay, higher emotional drama and greater psychological intrigue than its predecessor.

Commenting on the launch, Nikhil Madhok, Director and Head of Originals, Prime Video India, said the first season exceeded expectations by becoming a cultural talking point and helping redefine India’s reality entertainment landscape. He added that the new season would feature sharper gameplay, more dramatic twists and a fresh line-up of contestants designed to keep viewers guessing until the very end.

Sabrina Duguet, EVP, APAC at All3Media International, said the Indian adaptation had struck a strong chord with audiences in its debut season and that the company expects the new edition to build on that momentum through a combination of celebrity contestants, strategic gameplay and high-stakes drama.

The team at Dharmatic Entertainment said the first season demonstrated that Indian viewers were increasingly embracing reality formats centred on strategy and psychological competition rather than conventional unscripted entertainment. It added that season two aims to build on that success while remaining faithful to the unpredictable gameplay that helped establish the franchise.

With reality entertainment becoming an increasingly competitive battleground for streaming platforms, The Traitors returns with a proven global format, a familiar host and a new cast—setting the stage for another season where every alliance could be temporary and every smile may come with a hidden agenda.
