MUMBAI: Rural India’s next wave of entrepreneurs has just been given a new launchpad. Marking its 45th Foundation Day, National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) has launched Gramodyam, an entrepreneurship development programme designed to help rural youth turn business ideas into sustainable enterprises.

The initiative, unveiled by Shaji K. V., is being implemented in partnership with the National Skill Development Corporation under the aegis of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship. Programme execution will be handled by the Institute for Industrial Development.

During its three-year pilot phase, Gramodyam aims to support the creation of around 4,000 rural entrepreneurs through an end-to-end ecosystem that combines skill development, mentoring, access to finance and market linkages.

Rather than stopping at training, the programme is designed to support aspiring entrepreneurs through every stage of their business journey. Participants will receive psychometric assessments, counselling, entrepreneurship development training, industry-specific skill programmes, mentoring and enterprise establishment support, taking them from ideation to launching their ventures.

To maximise reach, Gramodyam will follow a digital-first hybrid delivery model, combining online platforms, social media outreach, community mobilisation and on-ground engagement across all States and Union Territories.

The programme also introduces an integrated support framework covering business opportunity identification, business planning, enterprise management, credit facilitation, market access and post-launch handholding. NABARD said the objective is not only to create self-employment opportunities but also to generate local jobs and strengthen rural economies through sustainable businesses.

To ensure transparency, every participant enrolled under the programme will undergo e-KYC verification through the National Skill Development Corporation’s digital platform.

One of Gramodyam’s biggest differentiators is its end-to-end credit facilitation framework. Entrepreneurs will receive assistance in preparing bankable Detailed Project Reports (DPRs), securing credit through NABARD-supported Regional Rural Banks and other financial institutions, submitting digital loan applications and accessing relevant government schemes and incentives.

The programme’s digital backbone will enable real-time monitoring of every participant’s progress, from enrolment and training to enterprise creation and growth. A dedicated impact assessment framework will track indicators including candidate mobilisation, gender inclusion, training completion, certification, GST and UDYAM registrations, operational businesses and verified sales performance.

Speaking at the launch, NABARD chairman Shaji K. V. said the initiative reflects the institution’s commitment to unlocking the entrepreneurial potential of rural India by equipping young innovators with the skills, mentorship and financial support needed to build sustainable businesses.

The collaboration between NABARD and NSDC aligns with the government’s broader vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat and Viksit Bharat 2047, seeking to make entrepreneurship a key driver of rural transformation. By combining digital innovation, capacity building, access to formal finance and market connectivity, Gramodyam aims to create a new generation of rural entrepreneurs capable of strengthening local economies while contributing to India’s long-term growth story.
