Heliconia brings Japan’s Tanabata festival to Goa with limited-time Nikkei dining menu
JW Marriott Goa celebrates the Star Festival through a five-course Japanese-Peruvian feast
GOA: The stars have aligned for food lovers. This July, Heliconia at JW Marriott Goa is celebrating Japan’s centuries-old Tanabata Festival with a limited-time Nikkei dining experience, bringing together Japanese culinary precision and Peru’s bold flavours in a specially curated five-course menu.
Available from 7 to 12 July, the experience draws inspiration from Tanabata, also known as Japan’s Star Festival, which celebrates the legendary reunion of the celestial lovers Orihime and Hikoboshi. The seasonal menu translates the festival’s themes of storytelling, celebration and craftsmanship into an immersive dining experience overlooking Goa’s tropical landscape.
Leading the kitchen is Porfirio Arturo Castro Salazar, whose interpretation of Nikkei cuisine blends Japanese techniques with Peru’s vibrant culinary traditions. The non-vegetarian tasting menu features Costa Nikkei Ceviche, Golden Chicken Gyoza, Volcano Crab Sushi Roll and Saikyo Miso Black Cod before concluding with a Yuzu Cloud Cheesecake served alongside lemon sorbet.
Vegetarian diners are offered an equally elaborate menu featuring Tropical Mango Ceviche, Forest Mushroom Gyoza and Tofu Katsu Kare, providing a plant-based take on the same Japanese-Peruvian culinary philosophy.
The food is complemented by Heliconia’s signature cocktail programme, with Nikkei-inspired drinks designed to pair with each course and enhance the overall experience. Evening services are accompanied by live DJ performances, adding a lively yet intimate atmosphere to the celebration.
The five-course tasting menu is priced at Rs 2,000++ for the vegetarian option and Rs 3,000++ for the non-vegetarian menu. Dinner service runs from Monday to Thursday between 7 pm and 11 pm, while Friday to Sunday also includes a lunch sitting from 12.30 pm to 3 pm.
The event reflects the growing appetite for experiential dining, where cultural storytelling is served alongside carefully curated menus. By bringing one of Japan’s most cherished seasonal festivals to India’s west coast through Nikkei cuisine, Heliconia is offering diners more than a meal. It is serving up a culinary journey that blends tradition, travel and contemporary gastronomy in a single sitting.
