MUMBAI: The cable chessboard is shifting again. GTPL Hathway is pulling a sizeable move, snapping up a six-lakh-subscriber television business as consolidation gathers pace in India’s pay-TV market. GTPL Hathway has signed an agreement to acquire the cable television business of seven ACT Group companies for an aggregate cash consideration of Rs 36.23 crore, strengthening its presence in southern and eastern India.

The company entered into a Business Transfer Agreement (BTA) on 23 June 2026 to acquire the businesses through a slump sale on a going-concern basis. The acquisition covers cable TV operations spread across Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Odisha and Karnataka, collectively serving around 6 lakh subscribers.

The deal includes the cable television businesses of A.C.N Cable Private Limited, ACT Digital Home Entertainment Private Limited, Atria Broadband Services Private Limited, Kable First India Private Limited, Sri Venkateshwara Digital Home Entertainment Private Limited, Mandapeta Digital Entertainment Private Limited and I.B. Communications Network Private Limited.

Among the acquired entities, ACT Digital Home Entertainment generated revenue of Rs 66.942 crore in FY26, while A.C.N Cable reported turnover of Rs 72.252 crore during the same period. Collectively, the businesses represent a sizeable cable footprint in key regional markets.

GTPL said the acquisition aligns with its strategy of expanding its cable television business and strengthening its subscriber base in existing and adjacent markets. The transaction does not involve any related parties, and the company’s promoter group has no interest in the entities being acquired.

Notably, the acquisition does not require any governmental or regulatory approvals, enabling a relatively smooth transition process. GTPL expects the transaction to be completed by 15 September 2026.

The move comes at a time when India’s pay-TV sector is witnessing increasing consolidation as operators seek scale, wider distribution networks and stronger negotiating power amid growing competition from streaming platforms and digital entertainment services.

For GTPL, the addition of 6 lakh subscribers across four states not only expands its reach but also reinforces its position in a market where subscriber scale remains critical to long-term growth and profitability.
