MUMBAI: Dark is having its moment and India’s sweet tooth is developing a taste for the deeper side of indulgence. As consumer preferences shift towards richer cocoa profiles, cleaner labels and more mindful treats, ITC’s luxury chocolate brand Fabelle has unveiled a new 64% Dark Chocolate range crafted with premium Ghana-origin cocoa.

The launch reflects a broader evolution in India’s chocolate market, where dark chocolate is steadily moving from a niche preference to a mainstream indulgence. Industry trends suggest the category has more than doubled in size over the past five years, outpacing the growth of traditional milk chocolate as consumers seek bolder flavours and greater transparency in what they consume.

At the heart of the new range is 64% Ghana cocoa, prized globally for its distinctive aroma and depth of flavour. Fabelle says the chocolates are crafted using ultra-fine particle size technology and extended conching processes to enhance texture, mouthfeel and flavour complexity.

Rather than treating dark chocolate as a one-note experience, the collection explores a variety of flavour profiles. The Cranberry Noir variant pairs dark chocolate with the gentle tartness of cranberries, while Orange Eclipse introduces subtle citrus notes to complement the cocoa base.

For consumers seeking a more straightforward cocoa experience, the No Added Sugar Dark Chocolate Bar focuses on the unembellished character of dark chocolate. The range is further expanded by Dark Symphony, a box of 10 handcrafted pralines featuring no added sugar and a blend of almonds, macadamias, pecans, hazelnuts and pistachios.

The launch comes as premium chocolate makers increasingly target consumers looking for indulgence without excess. Alongside the growth of dark chocolate, demand for reduced-sugar and no-added-sugar products has continued to gain traction across urban markets.

With its latest range, Fabelle is betting that modern indulgence is no longer just about sweetness. Instead, it is about complexity, craftsmanship and letting cocoa take centre stage.

The 64% Dark Chocolate collection will be available through Fabelle boutiques in select cities and on the brand’s online platform.
