Epson brings Atul Kasbekar’s book Honest Portraits to Life at Jio World Plaza
Jio World Plaza showcase features 56 striking portraits of cinema’s finest
MUMBAI: In a picture-perfect meeting of art and technology, Epson has joined hands with acclaimed photographer and film producer Atul Kasbekar as the official print partner for HONEST: Portraits of Character, a major photography exhibition currently on display at Jio World Plaza in Mumbai’s Bandra Kurla Complex.
The exhibition, which runs from 5 June to 5 July, brings together photography, storytelling and cinema through a collection of 56 large-format black-and-white portraits featuring some of India’s most respected character actors. Presented across Levels 1 and 2 of Jio World Plaza, the showcase celebrates performers whose craft has left a lasting mark on Indian cinema.
Among those featured are Naseeruddin Shah, Anupam Kher, Pankaj Tripathi, Boman Irani, Arshad Warsi, Kay Kay Menon, Ratna Pathak Shah and Rasika Dugal. Captured without retouching, the portraits focus on authenticity, placing character and expression ahead of glamour and celebrity.
To preserve every detail, texture and tonal variation, the exhibition’s prints were produced using Epson’s professional imaging technology. The works were printed on Epson SureColor large-format printers using UltraChrome PRO12 archival-quality pigment inks and Epson professional media. The result is a series of prints designed to deliver exceptional depth, accuracy and longevity while remaining faithful to the photographer’s original vision.
Speaking about the collaboration, photographer and film producer Atul Kasbekar said the exhibition’s success depended heavily on the quality of the final prints.
“Honest is about authenticity in its purest form. These actors bring an extraordinary honesty to the camera, and it was critical that every detail translated faithfully into print. The prints are the exhibition,” said Atul Kasbekar. “Epson photo printers’ ability to reproduce subtle tonal gradations, especially in black and white, made them the ideal partner for this project.”
For Epson, the partnership highlights the growing importance of high-quality print technology in artistic storytelling. The company believes the printed image remains a vital part of the photographic process, particularly for exhibitions where viewers engage with the work in a physical setting.
“Photography does not end when a picture is made. The final print is where the photographer’s vision truly comes to life and is shared with the world,” said Epson India director – brand and communication Tushad Talati. “At Epson, we have spent decades advancing the art and science of photographic printing, helping photographers transform images into enduring works of expression. Through this collaboration, we are enabling audiences to experience Atul Kasbekar’s work with the depth, detail and authenticity he intended.”
The exhibition also reflects Jio World Plaza’s efforts to position itself as a destination not only for luxury retail but also for cultural and artistic experiences. Entry to the exhibition is free, allowing visitors to explore a rare collection of portraits that shine a spotlight on the faces behind some of Indian cinema’s most memorable performances.
As photography and technology continue to evolve together, HONEST: Portraits of Character demonstrates that while cameras capture a moment, it is often the print that gives it lasting presence. For visitors, the exhibition offers a chance to see some of India’s finest actors quite literally in a new light.
