MUMBAI: Class is almost in session, and primetime may soon have a new teacher. Senior journalist and anchor Rubika Liyaquat is set to join Times Now Navbharat following her recent exit from News18 India, according to industry sources. Sources indicate that she is expected to begin her new role on June 11, marking another significant move in Hindi television news’ ongoing talent reshuffle. The development comes just weeks after Liyaquat stepped down from News18 India, where she served as Consulting Editor and fronted several key primetime programmes. Her departure in May had sparked widespread speculation across the broadcast industry, with attention quickly turning to where one of Hindi news television’s most recognisable faces would land next.

If the move materialises as expected, Liyaquat is likely to take charge of the coveted primetime slot recently vacated by Sushant Sinha, who parted ways with Times Now Navbharat earlier this month before making his move to News18 India.

The appointment would add another high-profile name to Times Now Navbharat’s editorial ranks at a time when news channels are increasingly investing in personality-led programming to strengthen audience loyalty in a fiercely competitive market.

A familiar face to Hindi news viewers, Liyaquat has built a career spanning several leading television networks. Before joining News18 India, she held editorial and anchoring roles at ABP News, Zee News and Bharat24, establishing herself as one of the most prominent women anchors in the Hindi news ecosystem.

Fueling speculation around her arrival, Times Now Navbharat recently released a promotional campaign for a new show titled News Ki Pathshala. The teaser carries a classroom-inspired theme and hints at an explanatory news format designed to help viewers better understand the stories shaping the day’s agenda.

“Everyone will tell you the news, but who will help you understand it? That’s why… Madam is coming! Don’t miss the class your attendance is mandatory!” the promo declares, stopping short of officially naming the anchor.

The messaging has nevertheless triggered industry chatter, with many viewing the campaign as a strong indication of Liyaquat’s impending arrival. The “Madam” reference, coupled with the educational framing of the programme, has led observers to connect the dots between the teaser and the journalist’s reported move.

Should she join as expected, Liyaquat’s arrival would continue a period of significant movement among top Hindi news anchors, with channels increasingly competing not only for ratings but also for recognisable editorial personalities capable of commanding loyal viewership.

For Times Now Navbharat, the move could strengthen its primetime arsenal. For viewers, meanwhile, the bell may soon ring on a new chapter in the evening news battle.
