Imtiaz Ali and A.R. Rahman strikes a birthday chord for Vedang Raina

MUMBAI: Vedang Raina received a musical gift to remember as filmmaker Imtiaz Ali and music maestro A. R. Rahman unveiled Ishq Mastana, the latest track from their upcoming film Main Vaapas Aaunga, on the actor’s birthday.

Following the soulful Kya Kamaal Hai, the spirited Maskara and the poignant Vo Nahin, Ishq Mastana arrives as a joyous ode to love, friendship and community. Set in pre-Partition Punjab, the song paints a vivid picture of bustling homes, lively college corridors and carefree moments shared among friends and family.

At the heart of the track is Keenu, played by Vedang Raina, whose infectious energy lights up the screen alongside Sharvari. The song also offers glimpses of Naseeruddin Shah and Diljit Dosanjh, adding to the growing anticipation around the film.

More than a celebration number, Ishq Mastana blends Punjabi folk traditions with jazz and swing influences that once flourished across undivided India. Its central refrain, “Haman Hai Ishq Mastana, Haman Ko Hoshiyari Kya”, draws from the timeless poetry of Kabir, giving the track a deeper cultural resonance.

Voiced by Mohit Chauhan along with Nargis and Pooja Tiwari, with lyrics by Irshad Kamil, the song combines nostalgia and exuberance in equal measure, capturing a time when every gathering felt like a festival.

Produced by Birla Studios, Applause Entertainment and Window Seat Films, Main Vaapas Aaunga is set to arrive in cinemas on 12 June 2026, with music released under Tips Music. If Ishq Mastana is any indication, audiences can expect a film that wears its heart on its sleeve and its rhythm firmly on its feet.
