MUMBAI : In a move that keeps the banking wheels turning at full speed, Sukhvinder Kaur has been promoted as deputy managing director, operations-channel management at State Bank of India, marking another major milestone in her nearly 16-year leadership journey with the country’s largest public sector lender.

Based at the bank’s corporate headquarters in Mumbai, Kaur will now oversee a wide-ranging portfolio focused on operational excellence, customer experience enhancement, policy execution and large-scale banking transformation initiatives across SBI’s extensive domestic and international network.

The appointment comes as SBI sharpens its focus on strengthening digital channels, streamlining operational systems and improving service delivery for millions of customers across India and overseas. Her expanded responsibilities are also expected to include reinforcing asset-liability management frameworks and driving strategic institutional operations at scale.

Sharing the announcement, Sukhvinder Kaur said, “I am delighted to share that I have taken charge as deputy managing director, operations-channel management at State Bank of India. This new assignment brings with it immense responsibility and exciting opportunities to further strengthen customer experience, and service excellence at scale.”

Kaur’s rise through the ranks reflects a steady climb shaped by high-impact leadership assignments across geographies and banking verticals. Before stepping into the deputy managing director role, she served as chief general manager in Mumbai, where she led key administrative and business operations for close to three years.

Her earlier stints included serving as general manager from 2020 to 2023 and deputy general manager, personal banking in Bhopal, where she handled crucial retail banking operations. Industry observers credit her with playing an important role in scaling retail assets and strengthening operational processes during her tenure.

One of the defining chapters of her career came overseas, where she spent more than four years in Los Angeles as senior vice president and regional manager at State Bank of India (California). There, she managed administration and business operations for the bank’s California branches while navigating the regulatory and commercial landscape of the US banking sector.

Colleagues and industry insiders widely regard Kaur as a seasoned banking professional with expertise spanning retail banking, risk management, executive administration and cross-border operations. Her ability to balance governance with growth has earned her recognition within banking circles in India and abroad.

Academically, Kaur studied commerce and economics at Kendriya Vidyalaya, building a foundation that would later support a long and influential career in banking leadership.

With customer expectations rapidly evolving and banking operations becoming increasingly tech-driven, Kaur’s promotion comes at a significant moment for SBI. As the bank looks to modernise operations while maintaining its massive nationwide reach, her leadership is expected to play a central role in shaping the next phase of SBI’s operational journey.
