Times Now marks 20 years of reshaping India’s primetime news debates
MUMBAI: Times Now has marked two decades on air, celebrating its transformation from a fledgling English news channel into one of India’s most influential primetime platforms shaping public discourse and political accountability.
Since its launch in 2006, the channel has built a reputation for sharp debates, outcome-driven journalism and campaigns that pushed uncomfortable questions into the national spotlight. Its editorial philosophy of “positive provocation” has underpinned high-profile initiatives such as End VIP Raj, Swachh Neta, End Triple Talaq, Right to Pray and Path to Life, many of which evolved from newsroom discussions into nationwide conversations.
Flagship shows including The Newshour, India Upfront, Frankly Speaking, Blueprint and NewsHour @9 & 10 became appointment viewing for audiences seeking rigorous analysis at the end of each day.
To commemorate the milestone, Times Now is hosting a curated series of conversations with prominent personalities, including former cricket captain Kapil Dev and actor Vikrant Massey.
Vineet Jain, managing director of the Times Group, said the channel’s journey reflected a steadfast commitment to fearless and credible journalism, while Ashish Sehgal, ceo of the Times Television Network, credited the team’s resilience and viewer trust for its sustained leadership. Navika Kumar, group editor-in-chief of Times Now and Times Now Navbharat, said the network’s mission remained focused on empowering citizens and holding power to account.
