BBC World best news channel at HOT BIRD awards
NEW DELHI : BBC World has won the Best News Channel award in the fifth HOT BIRD TV Awards .
Internationally recognised as a showcase for the best European satellite channels broadcast by Eutelsat, the ceremony was held in Venice on 4 October 2002, according to an official statement from BBC.
An international jury which comprised television critics and journalists from the specialist press were asked to analyse and vote on the best programme offerings from more than 150 television channels. They chose BBC World from a shortlist of three nominations in the news category, thus making it the only English language channel to win an award this year . It was specifically awarded the prize for its coverage of the September 11attacks on the US last year, claims the channel.
