WASHINGTON: Noted zoologist Jane Goodall has moved to the Discovery network, ending a long association with National Geographic, where she worked as the explorer-in-residence.
The network has announced a multi-tier partnership with Goodall which will include developing on-air specials on Animal Planet, participating in Animal Planet’s travelling exhibit, Animal Planet Expo. She will also be actively involved with the Discovery Channel Global Education Fund.
Goodall became famous for her work with the chimpanzees in Africa. The thrust of the programmes that the Jane Goodall Institute and Animal Planet will develop will rest on providing a deeper understanding of her work and the critical issues involving animals around the world.
However, Goodall’s activities will not be restricted to on air programmes. She will visit and promote the activities of the Discovery Channel Global Education Fund (DCGEF), a nonprofit, public charitable organisation dedicated to reaching across the global information divide with the tools and training necessary to extend the power of technology to under-resourced communities around the world.
Executive VP and GM Animal Planet Michael Cascio said, “Dr. Goodall is a true legend. We are very excited to welcome Jane and her vision to Animal Planet. Our organisations share many of the same educational and conservation values, and a mission to help people better understand animals and the world within which we all live.”
