Sify enhances SifyMail with DomainKey system
MUMBAI: Sify Limited has implemented the DomainKey authentication system in SifyMail to help prevent spamming and mail forgery.
The system will enable Sify, and other email providers to verify the domain of each email sender and the authentiticy of the messages before admitting them, to help stop spam or fraudulent mail from reaching users, says an official release.
Each and every mail sent out from Sify’s mail servers will now be digitally signed. Any other mail server that implements the Domain Keys technology will be able to verify the authenticity of mails from Sify’s mail servers, informs the release.
Sify Limited CTO Rustom Irani said, “Domain keys represent an effort to restore the ease of use and security that the internet enjoyed in its early days. If adopted as a standard by the major email service providers of the world and leading establishments, we can ensure adequate protection against spam and fraudulent mails.”
“DomainKeys is a technology process that gives email providers a mechanism for verifying both the domain of each email sender and the integrity of the messages sent, that is to verify that they were not altered during transit”, said Sify Limited vice president, software and systems, Manvendra Bhangui.
Once the domain can be verified, it can be compared to the domain used by the sender in the Sender: If the message is a forgery, then it’s spam or fraud, and it can be dropped without impact to the user. For well-known companies that commonly send transactional email to consumers, such as banks, utilities, and eCommerce services, the benefits of verification are profound, adds the release.
