MUMBAI: Yahoo! has launched beta version of a search engine tool that generates information related to content highlighted on a web page. The tool Y!Q provides a shortcut method of getting more information on topics covered on a page.

The Y!Q toolbar can be downloaded free on the Yahoo website. After the download, the tool is automatically installed on internet explorer. A plug-in is also available to add the tool to the open-source firefox browser. Webmasters can embed Y!Q’s contextual search results into their pages by incorporating code for the DHTML module.

The Y!Q launch follows MSN’s launch of its homegrown search engine on the portal last week and Google expanding its search services to offline content.
