Vijay TV lines up New Year specials

MUMBAI: Vijay TV is presenting an interesting line-up of shows for the Tamil New Year’s day, 14 April. The channel has a mix of film-based shows and cultural programmes.

The film-based shows feature top Kollywood stars including Vikram, Surya, Silambarasan, SJ Surya and Simran while the cultural shows bring great achievers of the Tamil Nadu including Karunanidhi, P Chidambaram, Kalanithi Maran, Vairamuthu and Narain Karthikeyan.

Vijay kicks off the campaign at 7:30 am with Mettukkal Puthusu, a programme showcasing the chartbusters of the newly released and yet to release movies in Kollywood on Tamil New Year’s Day. It will be followed by the debate show Dindigul Leoniyin Pattimandram.

At 9 am, the channel brings Take off with Chiyan, which showcases the the grand finale to the SMS contest of the same name. The show features special moments shared by the four winners on their dream vacation at Mauritius with their hero Vikram. Hello Friend, a mobile game show in which actor Silambarasan participates, is slotted for 10 am. Then we have popular actor Surya coming up with a special show Nerukku Naer at 11 am. Acclaimed film critic Madan joins Surya in the show for a one-on-one.

At 12 PM, the channel brings Sigaram Thotta Thamishargal, a show on Tamilians. The programme throws light on Tamilians who have created history: Kalaignar Dr M Karunanidhi, union finance minister P Chidambaram, Cognizant Technologies CEO Lakshminarayana, lyricist Vairamuthu, writer Jayakanthan, Sun Network CMD Kalanithi Maran and eminent social worker Chinna Pulla amongst others.

At 1 PM, the show Simran Endrendrum has Simran giving a special interview. At 1:30 PM, the channel telecasts the Tamil version of the Hollywood flick Total Recall starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. At 4:30 PM, curtain raiser for Tamizhil Best Friend takes a close look at director/actor SJ Surya’s upcoming movie. At 5 PM, the channel brings a sneak peek into the big budget movie Sachin, starring Vijay.

At 6 PM, the channel brings Vijay Talkies, a show packed with non-stop trailers of movies. At 6:30 PM, another film-based show Mettukal Pudhusu showcases the chartbusters of the newly released movies in Kollywood, on Tamil New Year’s Day. At 7 PM, the channel offers December Pookal, musical night featuring some of the top singers of the industry like Anuradha Sriram, Mano, Mahathi, Unni Menon, performing some of their greatest hits. In addition scintillating dances by Chaaya Singh and Tejashree will be telecast.

Asianet Television Awards 2026 celebrates women power in Malayalam TV

“She is the Colour” theme honours icons as ceremony airs on March 14 and 15 at 7 PM.

MUMBAI: If television lights up living rooms, this year Asianet decided to let women provide the colour. The Asianet Television Awards 2026 turned the spotlight firmly on women empowerment with the theme “She is the Colour”, celebrating the strength, resilience and achievements of women who continue to shape society and the Malayalam entertainment industry.

The ceremony honoured several distinguished personalities whose journeys have left a lasting cultural imprint. Among them was legendary playback singer Vimala Varma, widely recognised as the first Malayalam playback singer. The evening also paid tribute to Padma Shri awardees Devaki Amma and Vimala Menon for their exceptional contributions in their respective fields.

Leading women from the Malayalam film industry were also recognised during the event, including actor Shweta Menon, who currently serves as president of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists, and National Award winning actor Surabhi Lakshmi.

The awards ceremony brought together a glittering lineup of actors and industry figures, including Jayasurya, Vijay Babu, Asha Sarath, Lena, Esther Anil, Anumol, Akhila Bhargavan, Sarayu Mohan, Prajod Kalabhavan, Gayathri Suresh, Sabumon Abdusamad, Swasika, Tini Tom, Sijoy Varghese, Kailash, Veena Nandakumar, Sabareesh Varma, Ansiba Hassan and Dinesh Prabhakar. Kishan Kumar, executive vice president Malayalam at JioStar, was also present at the event.

Beyond individual recognitions, the awards celebrated excellence across Malayalam television, acknowledging artists and technicians whose work continues to drive the industry forward.

The evening also offered plenty of spectacle, with elaborate dance performances, stunt acts and comedy skits performed by popular television and film personalities, turning the ceremony into a full fledged entertainment showcase.

Viewers will get to watch the celebrations when the Asianet Television Awards 2026 air on Asianet on March 14 and 15, Saturday and Sunday, from 7 pm onwards, bringing the star studded tribute to homes across Kerala and beyond.
